1.0 PRELIMINARIES & GENERAL ITEMS
1.1 MOBILIZATION.
Upon being notified of the award and consequent order to commence the works the following will be
effected:
Providing the Performance Security and Insurances for works, plant/machinery and labour/personnel.
Identifying suitable sites to set up material sites and camp site for the Site Agent and his site staff. The
camp will accommodate the Site Agent’s offices, stores, workshop, land plant/machinery. The Engineer’s
representative will be facilitated by provision of offices, supervision vehicles, miscellaneous items and
support staff.
Making good all access pans to Camp site and material sites. All personnel shall then be induced to health
& safety matters before works commence.
Establishing contacts with the Police and the local administration.
Works execution cycle
This shall be done once the pan area has been identified and limits marked. The positioning will be set not to
affect the pan embankment construction activities.
As specified and/or as directed by the engineer, the relevant formwork shall be erected to give the required
finish. BRC wire mesh or any other reinforcement shall be used as specified and to the engineers’ approval.
Cutting and bending of steel reinforcement to approved schedule shall be done at the site and fixed according
to the structural requirements.
Setting for reinforcement shall be inspected by the engineer for conformity with specification and drawing
requirement in readiness for fixing formwork.
Mixed concrete (by the appropriate ingredient design mix ratio) shall be transported to the placing locations
with hand tools like wheel barrows and concrete dumpers and shall be compacted with a poker vibrator.
Necessary concrete tests as specified and directed by the engineer shall be performed by our laboratory
technicians and samples taken for testing in approved laboratory per the engineer approval.
Curing of concrete shall commence immediately the concrete has hardened. It shall be covered with woolen
materials or sand and maintained wet by soaking with water.
Here he shall have to construct drift according to specifications’ as may be directed by the engineer.

2.2 WEIR CONSTRUCTION METHODOLOGY
2.2.1 Excavation of River foundation:
While keeping construction site dry, we will excavate the river/stream bed of the construction site until all
the organic materials deposited therein have been removed and to the depth where hard foundation is found.
Abutment will also be excavated at least 2 m to the horizontal direction into river bank on both sides.
Foundation of the diversion weir to be constructed will further be excavated 50 cm to 70 cm in depth unless
otherwise there is already rock foundation.
If there is rock on the bottom of river bed, chipping will be done to make concrete to firmly contact with the
foundation.
2.2.2 Assembling Reinforcement bars (for base concrete)
We will assemble the reinforcement bars including the base concrete portion (reinforcement bars will start
from the base concrete). It is recommended to assemble the bars at intervals of 25-30cm. (usually 30cm). As
for the size of reinforcement bar, Y12 (12mm) and Y16 (16mm) of diameter are usually used for weir
construction.
2.2.3 Assembling Reinforcement bars (for weir wall)
We will assemble the reinforcement bars including the base concrete portion (reinforcement bars should start
from the base concrete). It is recommended to assemble the bars at intervals of 25-30cm. (usually 30cm). As
for the size of reinforcement bar, Y12 (12mm) and Y16 (16mm) of diameter are usually used for weir
construction.
2.2.4 Concrete Mixing Mixing and Placing:
In order to get proper concrete for weir construction, we will adopt the standard mixing proportion of cement
to sand and crushed stone is: 1 : 2 : 4 in terms of volume, which is equivalent to 1 bag of cement (50kg), 2
bags of sands and 4 bags of crushed stones. We will use batch boxes to measure the materials for making
concrete.
Placing the base concrete-The base concrete with horizontally placed wire mesh and reinforcement bars
vertically arranged is placed on the bottom of construction space (excavated area). The thickness of the base
concrete is expected to be the same as further excavated depth. We shall until concrete dries up while giving
it proper curing.
2.2.5 Assembling Framework (Shuttering)
We shall assemble framework (Shuttering) to place the concrete while covering reinforcement bars
assembled. The inside of frame works will be coated with a bit of oil; to help smooth removal of the
framework after concrete is ready.
2.2.6 Placing Concrete to Weir Wall
We will pour concrete into the framework layer by layer. 30cm thickness is recommended to place for each
layer. Interstices and gaps inside of the framework should be filled thoroughly with concrete by poking the

concrete with a porker vibrator.
All crossings shall be installed in accordance with the drawings. Reinforced concrete protective slabs
shall be placed over the pipeline, at service crossings. The concrete slabs shall be a minimum of 150
mm thick and shall extend beyond the pipe, for at least 150 mm on either side.
On completion of backfilling operations, permanent surface warning tiles shall be placed on the
pipelines to indicate their points of intersection with other services. Drainage systems shall be
installed within the construction area if necessary to protect existing waterways and to control storm
water runoff. The systems shall be designed to discharge water to a collecting pits. If required, oil
separator and/or sediment traps shall be installed in the drains, to prevent the contamination of
ground water.
METHODOLOGY 6
progress, the open ends of pipes, fittings and pipeline shall be securely capped.
Pipeline Lowering-in: The pipeline shall be lowered into the trench as soon as possible after the
trench has been excavated.
METHODOLOGY 7
the contractor will also act as the environmental officer on behalf of the contractor if a dedicated
person or agent is not appointed.
Safety precautions are to be adhered by ensuring that, all plants are operated by authorized operators. Besides,
all workers in the concrete section will be provided with safety gears including dust masks, hand gloves,
gumboots, helmets, goggles and others as applicable.
