Usage :
We use the Past Simple to talk about events that took place at a particular time in the past.
Verb to be :
Affirmative:
He ,she ,it ,I , singular Was She was a teacher
We ,they , you , plural Were They were friends
Negative
He ,she ,it ,I , singular Wasn’t She wasn’t a teacher
We ,they , you , plural Weren't They weren't friends
Interrogative
Was He ,she ,it ,singular ….. ? Was she a teacher ?
Were We ,they , you , plural ….? Were they friends ?
Main verbs :
Affirmative:
V1+ ed , regular verbs play – played
He ,she ,it ,I , singular V1+ d, verbs ending in -e move – moved
We ,they , you , plural V1+ ied, verbs ending in a consonant + -y cry – cried
V2 , irregular verbs buy – bought
Negative
He didn’t play
He ,she ,it ,I , singular
didn't + v1 He didn’t cry
We ,they , you , plural
He didn’t buy
Interrogative
Did He ,she ,it ,singular + v1 ….. ? Did he play ?
Wh - question + did We ,they , you , plural + v1….? Why did he play ?
Note:
verbs ending in one vowel + one consonant: double the consonant + -ed, e.g. stop –
stopped.

3-when I was,

5-in 2010,
6-one day
2. to talk about an action that was in progress when another action took place, or at
a particular time in the past. For the shorter action, we use the Past Simple:
While he was climbing in the mountains, he broke his leg.
Affirmative:
He ,she ,it ,I , singular Was + ving She was laughing
We ,they , you , plural Were + ving They were laughing
Negative
He ,she ,it ,I , singular Wasn’t + ving She wasn’t laughing
We ,they , you , plural Weren't + ving They weren't laughing
Interrogative
Was He ,she ,it ,singular + ving ….. ? Was she laughing?
Were We ,they , you , plural + ving ….? Were they laughing ?
2- With the Past Simple clause, we can only use when or as:
We were driving along the coast when/as it started to rain.
When/As it started to rain, we were driving along the coast.
