RIZAL FAMILY
1. The family of Rizal is a rich family. According to the video, the house of her mother is
located near the capital of the province and its size and quality shows that they are
indeed an elite family. It is also said that the brother of Rizal’s mother, Jose Maria
Alberto, was casually traveling europe which is why his wife and children are the ones
often left in their house in Biñan. Lorenzo Alberto, Rizal’s grandfather, is also said to
have connections to the Dominicans which meant that not only are Rizal’s family rich but
also powerful.
2. Rizal was unapologetic about his father’s side of the family but it can not be said for his
mother’s side of the family. Although Rizal loved his mother deeply, the same could not
be said for her family. This is because of an event where his uncle’s wife, Teodora
Formoso, framed his mother by trying to poison her through a snack she served.Teodora
was to be served food due to her punishment of adultery to Jose Alberto. Rizal’s mother
was imprisoned for 2 years and was not given proper trial due to the promise of a
Alcalde Mayor that if he confessed in doing the crime she would be able to see her
children. Despite her confession she still proceeded to be incarcerated. This left an
impression on the young Rizal. He did not opt into staying in her mother’s family house
during his time of study in Biñan. It also did not help that her mother was deemed an
illegitimate child by her own familly.
3. The lesson that the grandchildren of Rizal wish to impart is, anyone can be a hero. The
video shows that despite the accomplishments and contributions of Jose Rizal, his life
and his family was not perfect. Not every hero’s origin story is perfect because life isn’t
meant to be perfect. This is the proof that anybody despite their flaws and shortcomings
can make something of themselves. The story of the family of Rizal should be a
reminder to all of us, that anybody can be the change we want to see in the world no
matter where we come from. No matter how imperfect we are, we can always be better
than those imperfections. Heroes aren’t heroes because of where they come from but
rather they are heroes because of the actions they choose to do in their lives.
