1.0 OVERVIEW

This card has been designed to provide an interface Modbus communications with the
pendants provided by CNC4PC (MPG2, MPG3, and MPG4), The board conditions the
signals and provides power to the pendant. The board also has a relay that reflects the
status of the e-stop button on the pendant so hardware e-stop functions can be
implemented.

2.0 FEATURES

• Connects 4 and 6 axis pendants (MPG2, MPG3, and MPG4)

• Has a relay that reflects the status of the e-stop button.

• Status LEDs.

• USB Communications.

3.0 SPECIFICATIONS

DIGITAL INPUT SPECIFICATIONS

On-state voltage range 1.8 to 5.5V DC
Maximum operation frequency 16 MHz
Typical signal delay 10nS

DIGITAL OUTPUT SPECIFICATIONS

Maximum output voltage 5VDC
Typical output current 40mA
Maximum operation frequency 16 MHz
Typical signal delay 10 nS

4.0 BOARD DESCRIPTION

5.0 MODBUS COMMUNICATION PROTOCOL

5.1 Board Modbus addresses and address offset

Encoder, Input and output pin discrete.

FUNCTION NAME OFFSET FUNCTION TYPE

DISCRETE OUTPUT 1000 Write SingleCoil
ENCODER INPUT 2000 Read InputRegisters
DISCRETE INPUT 2001-2011 Read Inputs

Note: To access the discrete input on pin # 1, you have to call it from the control software as
2001.

5.2 USB Communications

For Modbus RTU (Remote Terminal Unit) mode communications the default parameters are the
following:

Baud Rate = 38,400bps

Data Bits = 8
Parity = None
Stop Bits = 1
Flow Control = None

6.0 CONFIGURING THE CONTROL SOFTWARE:

To configure use the following sample configuration screen:

6.1 To configure Encoder use the following sample configuration
screen:

The encoder counters are 16 bits. That means they can hold 65,536 steps. The position of the
encoder is in register 2000.

6.2 To configure Inputs use the following sample configuration

screen:

7.0 RELAY TERMINAL

The relay reflects the status of e-stop button on the pendant. The e-stop button is
normally closed, when the button is not depressed the circuit is closed and the relay is
activated. That activation can be used to keep other hardware active, such as breakout
boards, contactors, or an arrangement of relay switches that can govern the safety of
the system.

8.0 CONNECTOR DB25 FOR PENDANT

The board comes with a connector that receives the pendant. A brain file that runs the
brain is provided. Please note that the brain file is different from the brain file provided
for other expansion boards, since the one is configured to the wiring of this board.
The idea is that you should not use and the PC as a means of deactivating the system
in the event of an emergency. The board has a relay can be used as a means to
activate/deactivate hardware in a direct manner.
