BBA -I Semester

Course Code: MCH 121 B Course Category:” Core L-T-P: 3-0-0

Course Description: This course explores fundamental concepts in management


and the dynamics of organizational behavior. The course covers core management principles,
including planning, organizing, leading, and controlling, and examines how these principles are
applied in various organizational contexts. Students will study organizational behavior theories,
including motivation, leadership, team dynamics, and decision-making processes. Emphasis is
placed on understanding how individuals and groups interact within organizations and the
impact of these interactions on overall organizational effectiveness. Through case studies and
practical examples, the course aims to develop students' ability to analyze and address
organizational challenges, improve management practices, and foster a positive organizational
culture.

Course Objectives: The objectives of this course are:


1. To develop a comprehensive understanding of fundamental management principles,
including planning, organizing, leading, and controlling, and how they are applied in various
organizational contexts.
2. To Analyze how individual differences and attitudes influence behavior and performance
within organizations.
3. To Understand the key theories and principles of organizational behavior, including individual,
group, and organizational levels of analysis.
4. Examine the role of leadership styles, organizational culture, and structures in shaping
employee attitudes, motivation, and job satisfaction.

Course Outcome: At the end of the course, the students should be able to: -
1. Understand core management principles, strategic planning, and decision-making models
to enhance interpersonal behavior, ethics, and social responsibility in organizational contexts.

2. Understand and apply organizing principles and leadership theories to enhance


organizational structure, leadership effectiveness and individual behavior management.

3. Understand and implement organizational behavior concepts and models to improve group
dynamics, team development, and effectiveness within organizations.
4. To impart an understanding of organizational culture & contemporary Industry settings;
change & conflict management, to deal with uncertainty & future of work.

SECTION A
Introduction to Management Principles: Concept and nature of management;
Management levels and skills; Management functions - planning, organizing, directing,
decision making & controlling; Nature and elements of planning, planning types and
models; Goal Setting: SMART goals, management by objectives (MBO). Strategic
planning – An overview; Decision making process, models of decision-making. Nature
and meaning of Interpersonal Behavior, and Transactional Analysis; Benefits and uses
of Transactional Analysis, Johari Window Model, Managerial ethics and social
responsibility.
SECTION B
Organizing and Leading: Concept of organizing; organizing – work specialization, chain
of common delegation, decentralization, span of management, bases for
departmentation; Types of Organizational Structures: Functional, divisional, matrix, and
network structures. Concept of leadership, leadership styles. Personal characteristics
of effective leaders, leadership development; Trait, behavioral, contingency theories,
and managerial grid; Contemporary issues in leadership; Foundation of Individual
behavior- Personality- meaning, self-concept, self-esteem, Major determinants of
personality, Implications of Personality for managers; Type A & Type B personality; The
five factor model of Personality Motivation- types of motivation, theories of work
motivation given by Maslow, Herzberg, McGregor, Vroom and Porter – Lawler.

Organizational Behavior and Team Dynamics: Concept and nature of organizational
behaviour (OB); Contributing disciplines to the field of OB; OB Models; Group Behavior
& Team development--Group dynamics, Types of groups, Group norms and roles,
Group cohesiveness, Group development and facilitation, understanding work Teams
and types of teams, Creating effective team, Concept of team vs. group.
