Instruction - Alt Route Approved Candidates
1. Registration Number: All approved candidates on completing the required payment will be
allotted a registration number. This number must be mentioned in all future
correspondence.
2. Project Topic – The duly approved candidate have to submit a Welding Related Project
Report in the form of a case study to evaluate your logical application of knowledge
regarding the welding Fabrication, applications engineering (MODULE 4) of the syllabus as
per relevant IAB Guideline IAB-252r5-19 (made available in the link).
3. The candidate is required to propose a few (2/3) Project Topic Title/s based on his/her own
contribution and participation relating to a welding related job maybe with your current
employer which may be based on the documents of the current employer like construction
drawings – part of the construction, list of materials, materials certificates, N DT reports,
Destructive Testing Reports, WPQRs, WPSs etc. The candidate’s employer must not have
any objection in regard to his/her proposed Project Topic.
4. Approval of Project Topic Title - On furnishing the required Project Topic Title/s along
with a short abstract based on the content of the proposed Projects, either the same may
be approved or necessary suggestions may be made for adopting a specific Project Topic
Title to proceed with the Project for submission. It is expected that a candidate should be
able to confirm his/her intention to proceed& submit a proper topic within 6 months of this
communication which may be extended in special cases based on written application
explaining the reason for delay.
5. Submission of Project Report – Once the Project Topic Title is approved & finalised, the
Projectrequires to be completed within a time that will be intimated by ANB, based on the
subject of the topic and the objective, but under no circumstances this should ordinarily
exceed 6 weeks. The Project may include a practical part based on his/her own actual job
experience at work.
6. The total time limit for submitting the completed the project shall not exceed two years from
the date of approval of this communication but will exclude the time taken by ANB for
approval of Topic or the Report itself.
7. Paper Check – The submitted Project Report is subjected to a thorough paper check to
find out the overall quality of the Project. In this regard, a feedback may be given to the
candidate suggesting the areas for improvement and/or for incorporating alteration/
modification, if any as suggestion only and in any case the submitted Project may not be
construed/ interpreted as an approved Project.
8. Interview –
i. Once the submitted Project is approved by IIW - ANB, the candidate would be required
to make an oral presentation of the Project and explain your observations by defending
upon the drawn conclusion before a constituted Board of Examiners which may be
stretched over a period of 60 – 90 minutes

ii. During the course of interview, the candidate may also be asked regarding his/her
knowledge on the basis of your self-evaluation indicated in the filled in Application Form
against all the four modules. In case it is found out that the candidate has inadequate
knowledge in some areas the interview panel may recommend further learning with
respect to some specific modules including his/her enrolment in an ATB for tutorial.
9. During this period of Pandemic, we are conducting the Project Interview online, to enable
the candidate to take advantage by sitting at home. He/she is required to provide a
Declaration in the “FORM ANB-INDIA-F-CDF-58C_Declaration_Online Alt Rt Project
Interview which will be furnished when the stage comes
10. Documents – The candidate’s original certificates and other relevant testimonials are
subjected for online verification at the time of Project Interview/Presentation.
11. Final Examination – On passing in the Project Interview, the candidateis required to make
the payment of the next instalment of applicable Fees which may be revised by ANB as
necessary and would be allowed / entitled to sit for the written examination covering all the
modules I, II, III & IV (duration of two & half hours each module) followed by an Oral
examination. This examination is common with Standard Route candidates attending
lessons at an ATB.
12. Presently only physical presence at approved examination center is allowed under direct
manual invigilation. Under the current Pandemic condition the examination dates cannot be
scheduled and is dependent on Government order for travel and for safety of all concerned
in education sector.The candidates will be informed in advance as soon as any written
examination & Oral examination dates are fixed up along with the venue. The schedule
with full details of address, timing etc. will be intimated by E mail to the candidates’
registered E Mail address along with Photo Admit Card.
13. Any change in E mail or Mobile and other contact information including change of
employment should be promptly informed in writing to ANB secretariat to avoid
communication gap.
14. Award of Diploma – A Candidate would be entitled for the award of the desired Diploma
on successfully passing in both the written examination followed by an Oral test/exam and
subject to payment of all fees and other agreed conditions.
