Besides smelling bad food and the smell of burning, our sense of smell helps us choose
good food, perfume, soap, incense stick etc. and also to find out if our clothes are
stinking due to sweat.

When do you find your sense of sight helpful to you? List some examples: Ask one
of the student to stand at a small distance and say something softly. The rest of the
students should listen carefully. Then ask them to put their hands behind their own
ears. Let the same student say something again as softly as before. The sound will be
sharper when the students put their hands behind their own ears.
When do you find your sense of hearing helpful to you? List some examples.
I sat at my desk and tapped it once with my hand. I was able to hear a sound. Then
I put my head on the desk with my ear directly on it and tapped the desk again. This
time I was able to hear the sound sharper than before.

• Why was sugar and jaggery mixed into the mango pulp and dried in the sun?
To make mamidi tandra (aam papad).
• Write the recipe of Mamidi Tandra.
In the backyard they made a high platform by using poles and mat. In a vessel they
extracted pulp and juice from ripe mangoes and after adding jaggery and sugar in
equal quantities they spread this pulp into a thin layer over the mat in the sun. The
process was repeated until the layer was 4-cm thick. After a few days the layer was
taken out.

I will carry roti or parathas, subji, biscuits, chips, fruits, dry fruits, curd, sattu, chiwda,
sweets like peda, murabba, etc.
First I will consume roti or parathas, curd and sabji because these can spoil soon.

We get the complete taste of food only when we are able to smell it. So sometimes we
are told to hold our nose to avoid an unpleasant taste.

This is done to make these glass jars and bottles moisture free. If any moisture is left in
these containers, the fungus in there may spoil the pickle.

Now what do people do about water when they travel?
For travellers, there were arrangements of mashak. Nowadays people usually purchase
