Practical Work #6 – Reading Comprehension

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone was the first chapter in the
beloved Harry Potter film series, based on J.K. Rowling's bestselling novel.
Directed by Chris Columbus, the movie introduced audiences to the
magical world of Hogwarts and the young wizard, Harry Potter, who
learned on his eleventh birthday that he was not an ordinary boy but a
famous wizard.

The story followed Harry, a boy with a lightning shaped scar on his
forehead, as he went to a magic school called Hogwarts School of
Witchcraft and Wizardry. There he met his friends Hermione Granger,
extremely intelligent girl, and Ron Weasley, a red-haired boy that was the
youngest boy of seven children. Together, they faced many challenges, like
strange creatures, magic objects, and secrets inside the school. The main
story was about the Philosopher’s Stone, a magic object that gave people
eternal life. There were dark forces who wanted to steal the stone.

In the film we also met characters like Albus Dumbledore, the Headmaster
of Hogwarts and a powerful wizard; Hagrid, a kind half- giant; Professor
McGonagall, who is the Transfiguration professor and the head of Gryffindor House; and Severus Snape, an
unfriendly Potion’s professor and head of Slytherin House.

The film looked beautiful. It showed all the magical places like Diagon Alley and the big Hogwarts castle, and the
actors played their roles very well. Even though the movie didn’t include everything from the book, it still told the
story in a way that was exciting and fun. Both children and adults enjoyed it.

In short, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone was a great start to the Harry Potter story, introducing fans to a
magical world full of adventure.
