EMM 214 / EBE 209 / EAR 211: ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING II

Assignment
ASIGNMENT: Due Date 3rd April 2024

1. A Single phase transformer rated 1.2kV/120V, 7.2kVA has the following winding parameters
R1=0.8 X1=1.2 R2=0.01 and X2=0.01 Using equivalent circuits calculate:

i) The winding resistance and leakage reactance referred to the primary side
ii) The winding resistance and leakage reactance referred to the secondary side
iii) The voltage regulation of the transformer when it is delivering 7.5 kVA to the load at
120 V and 0.8 power factor lagging.
2. The equivalent parameters of a 150kVA, 2400V/240V transformer, are R 1=0.2Ω, R2=2mΩ,
X1=0.45Ω, X2=4.5mΩ, Rc=10kΩ, and Xm=1.55kΩ. The transformer is operating at rated load
and rated voltage with 0.8 lagging power factor. Using the approximate equivalent circuit
referred to the primary side, determine:

i) Voltage regulation.
ii) The transformer power loss.
iii) Efficiency.
3. A 12 pole, 50 Hz, 11 kV, three-phase induction motor delivers 250 kW at a slip of 2.5% and
a power factor of 0.86 lagging. If the rotational losses are 2.5 kW and the motor efficiency is
95.6%, determine:
i) the rotor copper loss
ii) the stator losses
iii) the input line current
4. A three-phase induction motor runs at almost 998 rpm at no load and 912 rpm at full load
when supplied from a 50-Hz, three-phase source.
i) How many poles does this motor have?
ii) What is the slip in percent at full load?
iii) What is the frequency of the rotor currents at full load?
iv) What is the speed of the stator field with respect to the rotor? With respect to the
stator?
5. A , induction motor delivers rated output power at slip
of Determine;
i. Synchronous speed and motor speed
ii. Speed of the rotating field
iii. Frequency of the rotor circuit
iv. Slip in rpm
v. Rotor induced voltage at the operating speed if the stator-to-rotor turns ratio is
(Assume induced stator voltage is the applied voltage)
