SERIES AND PARALLEL CIRCUITS

 Electrical components can be connected in series or parallel to each other.

Series Circuit
 A series circuit is one that connects electrical components one after another to form a
single loop.
 As more bulbs are added to a series circuit, they shine less bright.
 If more electric cells are added to a series circuit, the bulbs shine brighter because there is
more voltage and current.
 The disadvantage of a series circuit is that a break in any point of the circuit stops the
flow of current in the entire circuit.

Current and Voltage in a Series Circuit

In a series circuit:
 The current flowing through each electrical component is the same.
 The voltage is not the same through each component. It splits up in each component.

PARALLEL CIRCUITS
 A parallel circuit is one that splits into 2 or more branches.
 Adding more bulbs to a parallel circuit, their brightness remains the same.
 Adding more electric cells to a parallel circuit does not affect the brightness of the bulbs.
 An advantage of parallel circuits is that if there is a break in one part of the circuit, current
stops flowing in that branch only. Current still flows in the rest of the circuit.

Current and Voltage in a Parallel Circuit
In a parallel circuit:
 The current flowing through each electrical component is not the same. Its splits at the
branches.
 The voltage flowing through each component is the same.
