ROMAN ARCHES/ ARCADED WINDOWS (Neoclassicism)

- The American revival of neoclassical elements was thoroughly seen in American-period buildings in the
Philippines. This is seen in founded provincial capitols like Iloilo, Laguna, and Pampanga, as well as tall
buildings in the city where businesses were booming, especially in Escolta and Sta. Cruz. They brought
this here under the mimicry of the design of the buildings in the US itself based on the guidelines and
influence of William Parsons.

COLUMNS (Neoclassicism)
- With the neoclassicism style brought here, it is also noted the feature of columns in important buildings.
For example, The National Museums, PGH, Philippine Post Office, and provincial Capitols. Similarly, it
is brought here parallel to the styles found in America notably in its Capitol and from the mastery of
styles of the people in charge of rebuilding and beautifying the cities. In addition Pensionados often
associated with these styles as studied in America.

STEEL FRAMING AND NON-FLAMMABLE MATERIALS
- Jones Bridge was one of the significant introduction of new materials to reinforce its longevity and
surpass time. It was a replacement for an older bridge that was damaged from calamities.
- As a way to minimize damages and lengthen the lifespan of buildings, Americans introduced steel
framings and non-flammable materials after the war. The enhancement of structural parts was integral
to the rebirth of the cities after the Spanish colonial period. Furthermore, it paved the way for modern
construction with the integration of new materials and laws for the safety of users.

HYGIENE AND SANITATION STATIONS
- As introduced to us, hygiene and sanitation were properly taught to us by Americans after enforcing
strict actions towards cleanliness, health, and sanitation. They designed and created spaces that
incorporated proper usage and handling of sanitation practices in which they added areas for bathing,
washing, and drinking. In hospital settings, they incorporated areas to properly dispose of cadavers
through chemical processing or embalming. As well as water processing to ensure the continuous living
of people through proper access to safe water. It is also notable that the effects of it helped us lessen
illnesses and prevent another outbreak of deadly diseases.
