MAHAYAG NORTH DISTRICT

QUARTER 1

Week &
Teacher: BREX P. AMORA Day:
4.1-2
Learning Area: SCIENCE Date:
Grade Level: 7- CYPRESS Time Frame: 60 MINUTES

The learners demonstrate understanding of

Content Standard:
some important properties solutions.
The learners shall be able to prepare different concentrations of
Performance Standards: mixtures according to uses and availability of materials.
Express concentration of solution quantitatively by preparing different
concentrations of mixture according to uses and
MELCS and Code
availability of materials.
(S7MT-Id-3.2)
I. Objectives: At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:
express concentration of solutions (percent by mass and %
by volume ) using local materials
a.

IV. Lesson Proper

ELICIT (Access prior knowledge).5 Minutes Materials/Assessment Tool

Word Storm:
The teacher will present scrambled words on the screen. Let the student Power point / meta cards
arrange the scrambled letters to form a word and define each term.

1. Diluted
2. Concentrated
3. Solute
4. Solvent
5. Solution

ENGAGE (Get the students’ minds focused on the topic (short; question or picture).5 minutes

The teacher will show to the students a bottle of alcohol/or

picture showing the percentage composition.
Guide questions:
1. What is the solute and solvent in the solution?
2. What is the ratio of the solute and the solvent?

Https:/en.m.wikipedia.org.
EXPLORE (Provide students with a common experience). 20 minutes

The teacher will group the student by 5 and let them perform activity A
and B.

A. Salt Solution
1. Place 10 grams of salt in 100 grams of water and stir.

Guide Question:
1. Which is more, salt or water?
2. What is the ratio of solute and solvent in the solution?
3. Express the concentration of solution using the formula( %
by mass= mass of solute / mass of solution) x 100%
B. Vinegar Solution.
1. Place 15ml of vinegar in 100 ml of water and stir.

Guide Question
1. Which is more, vinegar or water?
2. What is the ratio of solute and solvent?
3. Express the concentration of solution using the formula (%
by volume= vol. of solute /vol. of solution) x 100%
.
EXPLAIN (Teach the concept. Should include interaction between teacher and students).10 minutes

The students will present their output. The teacher will then give
inputs and concepts missed by the students.

Key Concepts:

 Concentration of solution can be expressed in percent by

mass, which is the amount of solute in a given mass of solvent
expressed as grams solute per 100 grams of solution.
 Percent by mass = mass of solute/mass of solution x 100%
 Percent by volume= volume of solute/volume of solution x
100%.

ELABORATE (Students apply the information learned in the Explain). 10 minutes

Note: The teacher will assign the student ahead of time to bring any
products (solution) with labels of concentration. Use the label of
concentration to compute the percent composition of solute and
solvent.

Note ;( Teachers will give input on expressing the

concentration of solution and giving of critiquing.)

EVALUATE (How will you know the students have learned the concept)? 5 minutes
Let the students calculate the given problem.
1. What is the percentage by mass of sugar solution that contain
5g sugar in 95 grams of water?
2. How many ml of ethyl alcohol are present in a 50ml bottle of
70% alcohol solution?
3. A one peso coin has a mass of 5.5 grams. How many grams of
copper are in a one peso coin containing 75% copper by mass?
EXTEND (Deepen conceptual understanding through use in new context).5 minutes

Let the student answer the given question.

Why is 70% Isopropyl alcohol (IPA) a better disinfectant than

99% Isopropanol, and what is IPA used for?

V. Remarks

VI. Reflections
A. No. of learners who earned
80% in the evaluation.

B. No. of learners who require

additional activities for
remediation.
C. Did the remedial lessons
work? No. of learners who have
caught up with the lesson.

D. No. of learners who continue

to require remediation.

E. Which of my learning
strategies worked well? Why did
these work?

F. What difficulties did I

encounter which my principal or
supervisor can help me solve?

G. What innovation or localized

materials did I use/discover
which I wish to share with other
teachers?
