1. First, she had learned at the church that one of the old crofters of the ironworks had been robbed by a man
who went around selling rattraps. Second, her father taunted her and held her responsible for letting that “fine
fellow” into the house.
2. Life is all about living and let others live. Life should not have any associations with death. We fail to
understand that world peace and harmony are hampered by our activities and it is time we think of some
solution for the problems existing in the world. We have created a threat to humanity. Our life depends on our
activities so we should just do constructive things by indulging in self-introspection.
3. Subbu had many abilities: Any two
i. Subbu was a happy soul and he had the ability to look cheerful at all times.
ii. He was loyal and loyalty made him turn his entire creativity to his principal's advantage. Film-
making was quite easy with Subbu around due to his nature.
iii. Subbu's literary talent ran to being a poet and novelist too. Apart from this, he was an amazing actor.
iv. He had a charitable and loving nature.
4. Eco presents his arguments very logically and with subtle wit and playfulness. He himself says that he started
writing novels by accident. He essentially considers himself a university professor who wrote novels on
Sunday. This non-fictional writing is a marked departure from the regular depersonalised style which is often
dry and boring. Even his research work has the quality of creative writing and makes not only information but
also interesting reading.

6. We can say that marriage was a compromise for Aunt Jennifer. This is because she did not live her life on
her terms. She lived her life in accordance with the rules laid down by her husband. Her life was overburdened
by the demands and duties of her married life and the patriarchal society. It lacked self-expression. Although
old and weak, she had to face the ordeals of her oppressive marriage all her life and there was no escape from
her husband.

1. "The reward' was the escape of the enemy. Despite all moral dilemma, Dr Sadao listens to his heart every
time and takes the right decision and his wife, Hana gently follows him. At last, the General forgets to keep his
promise, which gives Sadao an opportunity to reconsider his decision. He gives the soldier a boat, food, bottled
water and quilts, and asks him to wait for a Korean fishing boat to escape. Dr Sadao searched the spot of black
in the twilight sea that night to see if the man was still there, but there was no light. Obviously the man had
gone.
2. Zitakala-Sa was not used to eating by formula. She was confused and sat down when others stood up and
vice versa. She felt out of place and embarrassed in the school. The matron was angry with her and kept staring
at her, this made Zitkala-Sa more uncomfortable and she started crying when the others started eating.
