(a) How many wildfires occurred in 2019?
(b) A student claims that the rainfall exceeded 550 mm in each of the 5 years. Do you agree? Explain
your answer.
(c) Describe the trend of rainfall from 2016 to 2018.
(3 marks)

(a) From the diagram, 23 wildfires occurred in 2019. 1A

(b) From the diagram, the rainfall was less than 550 mm in 2016.

11. Mrs. Ho has $110. She wants to buy four pencil boxes for her sons. The prices of the pencil boxes are
$17.9, $19.3, $27.8 and $28.2 respectively.
(a) Which estimation strategy is more suitable for estimating the total price of the four pencil boxes?
(b) Use the result of (a), does she have enough money to buy the four pencil boxes if correcting each
price to the nearest $10? Explain your answer.
(4 marks)
(a) Rounding up 1A

(b) From the result of (a), the total price of the four pencil boxes
= 17.9 + 19.3 + 27.8 + 28.2
 20 + 20 + 30 + 30 1A
= $100 1A
total price of the four pencil boxes < $100 < $110

∴ Mrs. Ho has enough money to buy the four pencil boxes.

16. Find x in the figure.

(5 marks)

Produce UT to G. Draw straight lines SY and XR such that SY // XR // QP.

Since QP // TU, we have SY // XR // TU.

With the notations in the figure,
t = 200 – 180 = 20

p = t = 20 (alt. s, GU//SY) 1A

q + p = 110
q + 20 = 110
q = 90

r = q = 90 (alt. s, SY//XR) 1A

s = 30 (alt. s, XR//QP) 1A

∴ x = 90 + 30
