Some people believe that it is wrong to test new

medicines on animals. Do you think the advantages of

testing new medicines on animals outweigh the
disadvantages?
Due to various biological similarities to human, mammals such as
monkeys and rats have been used in scientific research, especially in
medicine testing. However, people are still debating about whether or
not animals should be used as experimental subjects. This essay will
compares both pros and cons of this argument.
The major reason explaining why people should not use animals for
medical research is how cruel it is. They usually have to live in harsh
condition and normally would be killed at the end of the experiment,
giving them no choices but death. Not only issues about humanity, but
these tests also show unreliable results. Animals used for testing only
have similar, not perfectly match, genes to humans, so the medicines
that is safe for creatures may not work well on human bodies, which
may affect negatively to our health. Though mentioned reasons prove
that animal should not be used for medical studies, it is still popular due
to several advantages.
One of the reasons to use animal to test new medicines is that they
have short life-cycles and rapid breeding. This means that it allow
scientist to observe the effect of the medicine throughout the creature
life as well as in the next generations, which other methods may not
provide. Moreover, the animal studies give medical researchers a better
idea about the effects they are likely to see on human. From
complications on animals, scientists would have more data to develop
their medicines, being more effective on human health.
Although animal testing has a lot of benefits, which make it become a
popular way to research new medicine, I personally argue that it should
not be used due to its inhumanity and unreliability.
