QUESTION: Discuss hosted, mobile and IP-Phone PBX Systems

1. Hosted PBX Systems

It is also known as a cloud PBX or a virtual PBX system where a third-party service

provider hosts the telephone network infrastructure.

Advantages of a hosted PBX:

 Low initial setup costs since there is no need to purchase telephone

technology.

 Its scalability eases the addition, removal, and extension of lines.

Disadvantages of hosted PBX:

 Internet dependence makes the technology inoperable without an Internet

connection.

 Data security is a concern since a third party hosts it.

2. Mobile PBX systems

It is a PBX system that incorporates PBX functionality into mobile devices.

Mobile PBX uses an application installed on mobile devices such as smartphones and

tablets.

Advantages of mobile PBX systems:

 It is cost-efficient since it reduces the need for landlines.

 It encourages mobility since calls can be made and received from anywhere.

Disadvantages of mobile PBX systems:

 Calls can be affected by poor internet or mobile data connections.

 Mobile devices are prone to hacking posing a security threat.

3. IP Phone PBX Systems

It is a PBX system where IP phones are connected to a PBX using VoIP (Voice Over

Internet Protocol).

There are two types of IP phone PBX systems:

 On-premise IP phone PBX systems: The PBX software or hardware is installed

and maintained by the institution.

 Hosted IP phone PBX system: The PBX system is managed by a third-party

provider.
Advantages of IP Phone PBX systems:

 Communication is cost-effective since there are lower maintenance and

infrastructure costs.

 Its scalability enables the addition and removal of IP phones.

Disadvantages of IP Phone systems

 Its internet dependence indicates that the quality of a call depends on the

quality of the internet connection.

 Security vulnerabilities are a concern since calls transmitted over the internet

can be intercepted.
