Q1. What according to Malala’s father was the most beautiful sight in the morning?
Ans. According to Malala's father the most beautiful sight in the morning was of a child in
school uniform.
Q2. In what way were the designs of henna in the hands of Malala and her friends different?
Ans. While drawing designs of henna in the hands Malala and her friends drew calculus and
chemical formulae instead of flowers and butterflies.
Q3. With whom did Malala mostly compete in school?
Ans. Malala mostly competed with Malka-e Noor in school.
Q4. What did Fazlullah say about the education of girls? How did he try to enforce it?
Ans. Fazlullah says that girls should stay at home instead of pursuing education. To enforce
his views, he used his men to organise blast at schools particularly during night time curfew
when the children were not there.
Q5. What happened on the last day of February 2008?
Ans. On the last day of February 2008, Malala and her family heard an enormous blast . Soon
they found out that a suicide bomber had struck in the basketball court at Haji Baba High
School. Javid Iqbal, a police officer was killed by a suicide bomber.
Q6. What encouraged Malala to give interviews on television?
Ans. Malala noticed that the more interviews she gave on television channel, the stronger
she felt. She was being able to inform the world about the atrocities being committed by the
Taliban . She felt media liked to hear from a young girl like her. More importantly, her father
unlike other parents was brave and supportive.

Ans. These words were said by one of the neighbours to Malala's father.
(b) Why did he say so?
Ans. He said so because Malala's father installed a generator to pump out fresh water from
bore-holes to drink. He did it during Ramadan month and if the Talibans were informed
about this, they would bomb their entire neighbourhood.
(c) What was the situation at that time?
Ans. This incident took place during the peak of Taliban regime when the entire country was
shaken because of the violence committed by the Talibans. The overall socio-political
situation was tense.

(a) From where had the teachers been evacuated? Why?
Ans. The teachers had been evacuated from the Sangota Convent School for Girls and
Excelsior College tor boys. This is because these institutions were blown up by the militants
who used improvised explosive devices or IEDs.
(b) What was the justification given by Muslim Khan?
Ans. Muslim Khan justifed the bombings of the institutions by saying that while Sangota was
a convent school spreading Christianity, Excelsior was co educational having both boys and
girls studying together. Both these institutions were thus according to him harmful towards
their religious faith .
(c) Why was the justification not acceptable?
Ans. The justification was not acceptable since Sangota had never tried to convert its
students into Christians and Excelsior was co-educational only up to the primary level. Both
the institutions were thus careful about not cause any harm to religious faith.

Ans. Malala's father said this to her.
(b) Why does he say so?
Ans. He is both happy and proud to observe the way Malala gave interviews on the channels
where she opened be criticized oppression on women and melted out by the Taliban people.
(c) What does Malala think about this comment?
Ans. Malala did not pay much attention to his comments. She knew that those interviews
were only stepping stones and the initial steps of information the world about their
condition and what steps should be taken to improve their condition.
