Q 1. Answer any four parts of the following. 5x4=20


a) Distinguish between continuous-time and discrete –time signals.
b) Sketch the signal and find whether the signal are energy signal or power signal.
(i) 𝑒 −5𝑡 u(t) (ii) u(t) − u(t − 4)
c) Write short notes on Dirichlet’s conditions for Fourier series.
d) What are Causal and non-causal system? Find out the causality of
y(t) = sin(t + 2). x(t − 1).
e) Decompose the following discrete signal into even and odd parts.

a) Explain the unit impulse, unit step and ramp signals.
b) Define Z-transform and region of convergence in Z- transform.
c) Explain conditions at which system are causal and stable.
d) Using graphical method, find the output sequence y[n] of the LTI system whose
response h [n] is given and input x[n] is given as follows.
x[n] = {0.5, 2} ; h[n] = {1, 1, 1}.
e) Find the Nyquist rate of the signal x(t) = sin 200πt − cos100πt
f) Explain Laplace transform and Inverse Laplace transform in brief.
Q 3. Answer any two parts of the following. 10x2= 20
a) A continuous time signal is given as: x(t) = 8 cos200πt Determine
i. Minimum sampling rate
ii. If fs = 400Hz what is discrete time signal obtained after sampling.
iii. If fs = 150Hz what is discrete time signal obtained after sampling
b) Find the Fourier series expansion of the half wave rectified sine wave shown in
figure.

c) Define convolution. Also discuss the properties of convolution in detail.


Q 4. Answer any two parts of the following. 10x2= 20
a) Discuss the Fourier Transforms and their properties in detail.
b) Determine the Laplace transform, pole and zero locations, and associated ROC
for the given time function.

c) State and prove the following properties of Fourier Transform-
