Georgia Tech Draft
Georgia Tech Draft
As one of my school's top students on the national exam for the 10th grade, I've
envisioned studying abroad in the best institution. As a curious girl since childhood, I seek different
learning chances. I believe Georgia Tech’s in-class and extracurricular programs will provide
collaborative and hands-on learning opportunities, ensure I learn new skills, make lifelong friends,
and empower the leader in me to make an impact in the industry. I’m certain that Georgia Tech’s
Office of Undergraduate Education (OUE), would help me acclimatize to my new home country as a
first-year student, and assist me find a community with similar aspirations. The Center for the Study
of Women, Science and Technology (WST) at Georgia Tech will facilitate meaningful networking
with multicultural female engineering students from my first year. With its Academic Success &
Advising (ASA) unit and approachable staff, Georgia Tech, an outstanding university for academics
and professional development, will offer the best learning environment for acquiring the Biomedical
engineering skills I'm interested in. After reviewing Georgia Tech’s Research Option (RO) for
undergraduates and extensive research opportunities, I anticipate that it will assist me to review the
fundamental research concepts, connect with faculty, and research staff and equip me to do
research successfully. I have been a religious minority since I moved to Qatar during my third grade.
I think Georgia Tech’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) plan, will provide the support and
educational resources necessary to preserve my cultural and religious diversity. After reading about
Student Activities, clubs, and recreation, I became delighted as someone who likes to balance work
and personal life and views her mental health as a priority. Georgia Tech’s Leadership Education
and Development (LEAD) will help me develop personally and learn effective leadership skills for my
future roles.
I chose biomedical engineering as my major because of the following experiences which are
driving me to create valuable biomedical contributions. The Global Research and Innovation
Programme (GRIP) by National University of Singapore is the triggering point that got me thinking
about creating things. It taught the Design Thinking concept, gave the opportunity to apply it in a
team-based research project on domestic waste management, and assisted me in computing the
project using the mathematics and physics I learnt in school. However, my experience with post-
vaccination paralysis in high school, my inability to use my right arm, and how I overcame it using a
simple medical device recommended by my doctor, is the life-changing event that made me explore
STEM disciplines and influences me every day towards building something meaningful.
The summer enrichment & the medical explorer programs at Weill-Cornell Medical College in
Qatar and my volunteer work at a community hospital for Hamad Medical Corporation stimulated me
further to build something as I gained knowledge about the human body, understood how hospital
departments operate as a system, and discovered how diverse health professionals work as teams
to provide healthcare services to sick people. It was during these learning experiences I had my
eureka moment, when I realized how ubiquitous biomedical products were throughout the hospital
and how these individual biomedical devices served diverse functions, from simple health monitoring
to saving and restoring the lives of people.
The realization I got from my individual experiences, academic and extracurricular activities
made me and my dad research for the best institutions in the field of biomedical engineering. I am
confident that the purposeful fundamentals I saw in Georgia's biomedical engineering curriculum and
its in-class and out-of-class programs will enable me to become a competent innovator with solid
foundations. The knowledge I will learn from my mentors and the practical experience I will gain from
the biomedical engineering program there, will enable me to develop my skills sets, become expert
engineer, use the design thinking concept, come up with original ideas, and create biomedical
devices which would help people relive their lives, improve society and the environment.
