Format Your Paper
General APA Guidelines
In addition to conventions for citing information, style guidelines have rules for formatting the paper
itself that are specific to that style (for us, APA). Here are the basics:

❖ 1 easy to read font for the entire paper; some options:
➢ 11 point Calibri
➢ 11 point Arial
➢ 12 point Times New Roman
❖ Indent first line of each paragraph; do not add extra line spaces between paragraphs
The Title Page
❖ Title of paper (Bold, centered, top half of
page, first letter of each word capitalized)

❖ 1 (double) space between paragraph and next line, indent, and then talk about the first main
subheading

❖ 1 (double) space between subheading and
my next topic, and write another subheading.
new paragraph
Argument 2
Reference List
❖ Have your citations recorded before formatting (following the APA guidelines from media lesson 2)
❖ Last page of paper
❖ Write References at the top of the page (boldfaced, capitalized, and centered)
❖ Use same font as the rest of paper
❖ Left align
❖ Create hanging indent (½ inch)
❖ Double line space
❖ No additional spaces between citations
❖ List them in alphabetical order by the first piece of information
