LEARNING EPISODE NO. 1


THE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT
ACTIVITY 1 – Exploring the School Campus

YOUR TARGET:

At the end of the episode, you must be able to determine the characteristics of a school
environment that is safe, secure and is supportive of learning.

YOUR MAP :

To realize the intended learning outcomes, you must work through these steps:
1. Visit a school. look into the facilities and support learning areas in the campus, then in
the classroom.
2. Observe and use the checklist as you move around the school premises.
3. Analyze your gather data about the school environment.
4. Reflect on the characteristics of a school environment that promotes learning.
5. Present your idea of a good school environment through anu of these:
a. Descriptive paragraph c. Photo Essay
b. Sketch or drawing d. Poem, Song or Rap

Observation :

Familiarize yourself with the different areas and facilities of the school. Check the column to indicate
their availability. Give a brief description of those that are available, and say how each will contribute
to the student’s learning and development.

Name of School Observed: Andres Bonifacio Elementary School

Location of the School : Gil Puyat Ave, Pasay,1300 Manila

Date of Visit : September 10, 2024

The classroom has a minimal display of national heroes' portraits, portrait of the Philippine President. There are also a
statsue of “Andres Bonifacio” at the center of the school. The rooms are well lit and painted with light colors so that
the room will look brighter. The fans are functioning and windows are closed because every room does have air
condition to provide ventilation inside the classroom. The room is standard sized classroom that can hold up to 45-50
students.
2. How does this relate to your knowledge of child and adolescent development? How does these
relate to your knowledge of facilitating learning?

Sine this is my first time handling a student. the students are easy to learn if they are comfortable with
the people around them, the place and making sure that are safe. As a pre-service teacher we have
to extend our patience provide support and understanding toward the students. Let us do not forget
that we must respect their belief but we have to teach them the moral values in the society.

REFLECT

1. Would you like to teach in the school environment you just observed? Why? Why not?

Yes, I would like to teach here because it provides a good working environment for students
and teachers. New buildings are being built to improve the learning facilities of the student and this
help the teachers to provide great class with best result. Teaching is quality

2. What kind of school campus is conducive to learning?

In my own opinion, if the campus provide a good atmosphere to help the students to learn
and grow. A school campus that encourages growth both physically, mentally, emotionally, socially,
spiritually. An institution that instill the value and understanding about natural order.

3. What kind of classroom is conducive to learning?

A classroom that is conducive to learning is with good learning environment, proper


ventilation and well lighted. But the best part of this classroom is, it welcomes criticism, challenges
and new ideas. This gives the student the benefits of growing through interaction emotionally and
intellectually. An environment where

the lessons are being learned understood and accepted that will produce a great impact in their lives.

4. In the future, how can you accomplish your answer in number 3?

I can accomplish anything with the help of every individual inside the class. Through passion
and determination, school, teachers and staffs, parents and students with a specific goal that to make
a better learning environment
ACTIVITY 2 – Observing Bulletin Board Displays

Observe :

As you look around and examine board displays, use the observation guide and forms
provided for you to document your observations.

An Observation Guide for Board Displays

1. Go around the school and examine the board displays. How many board displays do
you see? 1 board

2. Where are the display boards found? Are they in places where target viewers can see
them? The board was place at the back at the classroom so every free time students can
take a look.

3. What are the displays about? What key messages do they convey? What images and
colors do you see? How are the pieces of information and images arranged? There are so
many messages in regards on the board, there is for “ Anti- Bullying, Violence for women” etc.

4. What materials were used in making the displays? Are borders used?
