ABSTRACT

This presentation proposes a novel approach to detecting alcohol impairment and

adapting vehicle speed using a microcontroller-based system. Utilizing the 8051
(AT89C52) microcontroller, this system integrates alcohol sensors, speed sensors,
and control mechanisms to ensure road safety. The system detects alcohol levels
through sensor feedback, processes data using the microcontroller, and adapts
vehicle speed accordingly. Key features include Alcohol detection using MQ-3
sensor, Speed measurement using Hall effect sensors and Real-time monitoring
and alerts through LCD display.

OBJECTIVE

 Detect alcohol impairment using MQ-3/MQ-135 sensors.

 Implement adaptive speed control.
 Provide real-time monitoring and alerts.
 Ensure robust security.
 Enhance road safety.

CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION

We usually encounter drink and driving cases where drunk drivers crash their cars under the
influence of alcohol causing damage to property and life. So here we develop an innovative
system to avoid such cases. Our system would be constantly monitoring the driving force breath
by placing it on the steering wheel or at place where the driver’s breath is often constantly being
monitored by it. So, if a driver is drunk and tries to drive the system detects alcohol presence in
his/her breathe and alert with the buzzer sound with LCD alert . In this system we use an 8051-
microcontroller interfaced with an alcohol sensor along with an LCD screen and with integrating
alcohol sensors (MQ-3 with the 8051 (AT89C52) microcontroller for accurate detection.

The alarming rise in drunk driving incidents has necessitated innovative solutions to ensure road
safety. Introducing the Speed Secure Alcohol Detection and Adaptive Control System, a cutting-
edge technology designed to prevent accidents caused by intoxicated drivers. Leveraging the
8051 microcontroller (AT89C52) and MQ-3 alcohol sensor, this system detects alcohol presence
in drivers' breath, triggering instant alerts and adaptive control measures to prevent vehicle
startup. With its real-time detection capabilities, high accuracy, and fast response time, this
technology has the potential to revolutionize road safety, saving countless lives and reducing the
economic burden of accidents.

This study presented an effective method for reducing the rise in the number of road
accidents instigated by drivers' excessive alcohol consumption on Nigerian roadways.
Although speed restrictions and other preventative measures have been introduced, traffic
accidents continue to occur daily. Over speeding, rash driving and drunk driving are all
major contributors to motor vehicle accidents. To introduce this concept, this study has
built an IOT-based in-vehicle alcohol detection

In this context, an Arduino-based alcohol detector is an example of a device that has the
potential to detect the presence of alcohol in the surrounding environment. It is possible
to use this tool to check the results of individuals who have drank alcohol while operating
a motor vehicle. A MQ-3 alcohol sensor is utilized by the device in order to ascertain
whether or not alcohol is readily available.
