1. Juma drove a distance of 240km from Eldoret to Naivasha at an average speed of X


km/hr.Jamlek drove the same distance at 20km/hr faster and took 2 hours less. Find the
value of x (3marks)

2. The velocity time graph drawn below shows the distance travelled by a particle is 620m.
Calculate;
a) The velocity V. (2marks)
b) The deceleration of the particle.

3. The shopping centres Mwanzo and Mwisho are 17km apart.Nanjala walks towards
Mwisho at an average speed of 9km/h. Forty-five minutes later Cherono cycles from
Mwanzo towards Mwisho at an average speed of 30km/h.Calculate the distance from
Mwisho when Cheron catches up with Nanjala. (3marks)

4. A bus left Nairobi and travelled towards Busia at an average speed of 90km/hr. After
22/9 hours, a car left Nairobi and travelled along the same road at an average speed of
170km/hr. If the distance between Nairobi and Busia is 800km, Determine the distance the
car travelled to catch up with the bus (3 marks)

5. Two passenger trains A and B, 240m apart are travelling at 164kmh and 88km/h
respectively towards each other on a straight railway line. Train A is 150 meters long, while
B is 100 meters long. Determine the time in seconds that elapses before the two trains
completely pass each other. (4 marks)

6. A bus leaves town A at 8.30a.m. and travels at an average speed of 70km/h. Thirty
minutes later, a car leaves the same town and follows the bus at 120km/h. Find how
far apart they will be at 9.30a.m. (3marks)

7. Maghufuli travelled by train from Butere to Nairobi. The train left Butere on Sunday at
2350h and travelled for 7 hours 15 minutes to reach Nakuru. After 45 minutes stop in Nakuru, the
train took 5 hours 40 minutes to reach Nairobi. Find the time in 12 hour clock system, when
Maghufuli arrived in Nairobi (2 marks)

8. Two lorries A and B ferry goods between two towns which are 3120 km apart. Lorry A travelled
at20 km/h faster than lorry B and B takes 4 hours more than lorry A to cover the distance.
Calculate the speed of lorry B. (4marks)

9. A man sets out at 8.00 a.m for a 30 km journey. His average s peed at 5km/hr for the
journey but rests for ten minutes after each hour at the walking. He rests for half an hour
at the destination and returns on a bicycle at 20km/hr non-stop. At what time does the man
arrive home again? (4marks)

10. A police car travelling at 120km/h is chasing a suspect who is 5km away and travelling
at 80km/h. How far must the police travel in order to catch up with the suspect. (4marks)
11. Kataka set off on a journey from town P at 8.00a.m by walking at 4km/h. He arrived at
town Q, 12km from P and rested for 45minutes. He then hiked a lift on a bus which
travelled at 72km/h and arrived at town R at 1.00p.m Calculate the distance between
towns Q and R. (4marks)

12. Mukai travels from A to B at xkm/h. The two towns are 40km apart. She then travels to
town C at (x + 6)km/h. Town B and C are 100km apart. If the time she takes from B to C is
the same time from A to B, find the value of x (3marks)

13. A train 20m long is moving at an average speed of 52km/hr. Another train 30m long is
moving in the opposite direction at an average speed of 48km/hr. How long do the trains
take to completely pass each other. Leave your answer in seconds. (3marks)

1. The distance between towns A and B is 360km. A minibus left A at 8.l5am and traveled
towards B at an average speed of 90km/hr. A matatu left B two and a third hours later on
the same day an traveled towards A at an average speed of 110km/hr. (10marks)
a) i) At what time did the two vehicles meet?

ii) How far from A did the vehicles meet?

b) A motorist started from his home at 10.30am on the same day and travelled at an
average speed of 100km/hr. He arrived at B at the same time as the minibus. Calculate the
distance from A to his house.

2. A matatu and Nissan left town A for town B 240km away at 8.00a.m travelling at
90km/hr and 120km/hr respectively. After 20 minutes the Nissan had a puncture which
took 30 minutes to mend.

b) At what time did the Nissan catch up with the matatu? (1 mark)

c) At what time did the matatu reach town B? (3 marks)

Kukhu bus leaves Nairobi towards Butere at 7.30 am on the same day at an average speed
of 60km/h. the distance from Nairobi to butere is 450km. after traveling for one and half
hours; Kukhu bus developed a mechanical problem which took 45 minutes to repair
before continuing at its speed in the same direction.

(a) Determine the time when the two buses met. (4marks)

(b) Calculate the distance from Nairobi at the time of the two buses meeting. (3marks)

(c) For how long did the Msamaria bus stay in Nairobi before Kukhu bus arrving at Butere.

4. The distance between towns M and N is 280km. a car and a lorry travel from M to N. The
average speed of the lorry is N. The average speed of the lorry is 20km per hour less than
that of the car. The lorry takes one hour and ten minutes more than the car to travel from
M to N.
(a) If the speed of the lorry is X km per hour, find X. (6marks)

(b) The lorry left town M at 8.15am. The car left town M and overtook the lorry at 12.15p.m.
Calculate the time the car left town M. (4marks)

A bus left Eldoret towards Nakuru at 10:10am travelling at an average speed of 70km/h.
Given that the distance between Eldoret and Nakuru is 148km.

c) Another saloon car left Eldoret at 10.30am on the same day travelling towards
Nakuru. If the car travelled at an average speed of 90km/hr. How long did it take
