INTRODUCTION
The Granny Balaclava has a loose fit and a V shape on the front. It is made up of granny
squares and half granny squares. The joining method used in this pattern is the SL ST joining
method, and you are free to use your favorite joining method if you have.
You may adjust the fit of your balaclava on the neckline by adjusting the fold-over length; you
may have a more tight or looser balaclava depending on your choice.
Suggested yarn weights for this project are weights 2 and 3 with cotton or acrylic materials.
The recommended hook size is 4.5 mm. This pattern is intended for adults, but instructions
are included if you want to make it for children.
Please read the pattern through to the end with all of the instructions before beginning to
make your Granny Balaclava so that you understand the construction and see all suggestions
ahead of time. If you have any questions, you may always reach me through my email or
Instagram.

Half granny square edges: Work 2 SC on the sides of DC rows, 1 SC into the MR, 2 SC on the
sides of DC rows, and 1 SC into the joining point.
Granny square edges: Work SC on top of the DC STS, SK the CH 1 SPS, continue working SC
until the joining point. When you reach a joining point; work 1 SC into the CH 1 of the corner,
SK the joining point, and 1 SC into the CH 1 of the next corner. Continue until the end. Cut the
yarn.
Attach the yarn in the middle of the backside and make SC in the same sequence. SC on top
of each DC ST, and SK the CH 1 SPS. When you reach the PM, insert the hook into both panels
and join both sides with SC until the next PM.
When you see a 'joining point on the back panel' and a 'square edge on the front panel', insert
the hook into the CH 1 of the front panel and the CH 1 of the corner of the back panel and join.
Then insert the hook into the same CH 1 of the front panel, SK the joining point of the back
panel, and insert the hook into the second CH 1 corner of the back panel and join.
Continue making SC with the same steps as described above, and SL ST into the first SC.
