Business Requirement Document (BRD)

Project Title: Online Patient Booking and Registration Mobile Application

Created By : Feroz Saiyed

Executive Summary:

The goal of this project is to design and develop a user-friendly mobile application that
allows patients to book doctor appointments and register with a hospital or the clinic
online, reducing wait times and improving the overall patient experience.This app will be
developed for both android and iOS devices.

Business Flow Diagram:


Business Requirements:

1. Patient Registration and Appointment Booking:

● Patients can create a profile and register with the hospital or clinic through
the mobile app.
● Required fields: name, date of birth, address,email id,phone number, and
aadhar details.
● An OTP will be sent to registered mobile and email for the verification of
registration.
● After successful registration MRD number will be allocated to the patient
● After registration a message will be displayed to proceed with booking,if
the patient selects no,only profile will be added.But MRD number will be
allocated to the patient.
● Patients can search for available appointment slots by doctor and
specialty for the registered hospital or clinic.
● Patients can book and confirm appointments through the app.
● Patients may also need to pay the booking and consultation fees through
the app.The app usage fee is Rs 50(Fixed),for each booking,but the
consultation fee for a particular doctor will depend upon the hospital or
clinic.
● After successful registration email and sms will be sent to the patient
confirming the appointment.
● Also the mobile will give a notification for successful appointment booking.

2. Appointment Booking for registered patient:

● Patients can do a booking from the app installed in their mobile.


● Patients can search for available appointment slots by doctor or specialty
in the hospital or clinic.
● Patients can book and confirm appointments through the app.
● Patients may also need to pay the booking and consultation fees through
the app.The app usage fee is Rs 50(Fixed),for each booking,but the
consultation fee for a particular doctor will depend upon the hospital or
clinic.
● An OTP will be sent to registered mobile and email for the verification of
booking.
● Also the mobile will give a notification for successful appointment booking.
● MRD Number will be displayed on the app and will be present in all
messages and notifications.
3. Appointment Management:

● Patients can view, cancel, or reschedule appointments through the app.


● For rescheduling the appointment no extra charges will be collected from
the patient.But the rescheduling must be done before 12 hours for a
particular day.The new appointment will be done based on the available
slots.
● For canceling the appointment only the consultation fee will be refunded
back to the patient.The app usage charge will not be refunded.Also for a
particular day cancellation must be done before 12 hours for a particular
day.The patient can still cancel the appointment before the appointment
time but no money will be refunded.
● For doctor leave or not available for a particular day,an sms or email will
be sent to the patient at least 24 hours before the appointment time by the
hospital or clinic.The patient can use the app to reschedule or cancel the
appointment.

4. Profile Management:

● Patient can update the profile details through the app


● All information except MRD number can be updated.An OTP will be sent
as sms or email for the confirmation of the change.
● If in case a patient is logged off the app,he can login to the app using
MRD number.An OTP will be sent to the patient for logging into the app.

5. Payment Integration:

● Patients need to pay for appointment booking through the app


● Secure payment gateway integration must be done for this purpose.It
must support all payment methods like UPI/NetBanking/Mobile
Wallet/Credit and Debit Cards.Commonly used payment gateway like
PayU can be considered.
6. Reminders and Notifications:

● Patients will receive appointment reminders and notifications through the


app.
● Notifications are sent while booking,cancellation and rescheduling
appointments to the patient.
● Reminders will be sent to app during the appointment day on early
morning(6 AM) and one hour before the appointment.Also an SMS and
Email will be sent to patient on appointment day early morning around 6
AM
● A hospital or the clinic can send messages or notifications to patients
through the app especially for rescheduling or cancellation of
appointments in case of Doctor;s absence.

7. Security and Compliance:

● Comply with India's Personal Data Protection Bill (PDPB, Health Data
Management Policy,The Information Technology Act, 2000, and the
National Digital Health Mission (NDHM) guidelines.
● Implement robust security measures to protect patient information like
encrypting information related to authentication and authorization in the
app.Also it is better to encrypt all sensitive data of patients.

8. User Interface and Experience:

● Intuitive and user-friendly interface for patients and hospitals.


● Provide clear and concise instructions for booking and registration as help
or manual in the app.

9. Integration:

● The mobile app must be integrated with existing systems used by


hospitals or a clinic (e.g., EHR, appointment scheduling software).
● API integration must be done in the app for seamless data exchange
between different systems used by the hospital or clinic..

10. Reporting and Analytics:


● Provide insights on appointment bookings, cancellations, and patient
engagement details
● Offer data analytics for hospitals or the clinic to optimize their services.

● The hospital or the clinic will provide necessary data and integration

● Patients will have access to smartphones and high speed internet
connectivity.
● Regulatory compliance will be maintained throughout the development
process.
