An Unusual Situation

Last Friday, something very unusual happened to me. I was walking home from work
when I saw a little dog trapped in a fence. Actually, it looked very scared and was
barking loudly. I thought, "I must help this dog."

Fortunately, I had my phone, so I called my friend Tom. I asked him if he could bring
some tools. He said he would come right away. While I waited, I tried to calm the dog. I
thought, "If only I had some food, the dog would feel better."

Luckily, Tom arrived quickly with some tools. He told me, "We should be careful not to
hurt the dog." We worked together to free the dog from the fence. It took some time, but
eventually, we managed to get the dog out.

The dog was very happy and wagged its tail. I said to Tom, "I wonder if the dog has an
owner nearby." We decided to look around and ask people if they knew the dog.
Eventually, we found an old lady who was looking for her lost dog. She was very happy
to see her dog again.

She thanked us many times and said, "I couldn't have found him without your help." I
felt very proud and happy. Actually, it was one of the best things I have ever done.

Monday, I was thinking...

Monday, I was thinking about how normal my life was. I didn't know something
surprising was going to happen. That evening, I walked home from work and saw an
old, spooky house on my street. I always thought it was scary.

But on Monday, I decided to see what was inside. The door was open a little bit, so I
went in. It was dark and dusty, and it smelled bad. I walked around and heard a noise
from the basement. I was scared, but I went down the stairs. The stairs creaked with
each step.

At the bottom, I found an old box. Inside, there were old letters and pictures from a long
time ago. The letters told a story about a family who disappeared. I couldn't believe it. It
was like a movie or a book. I read all the letters and learned about their sad story. They
talked about love, loss, and a big mystery.

I spent a long time reading everything. I imagined what happened to the family and why
they left. It made me feel like a detective. After that, I felt different. I realized there are
many hidden stories everywhere, and sometimes we just need to be brave to find them.
It was an adventure I will never forget.

Here is a story of around 200 words about an unusual situation, written as if by a 9-

year-old child, but including some B2 level grammar structures:

An Unusual Situation 1
Yesterday I was playing at the park when suddenly I saw a stray little doggy. The first
thing I thought was "Aww how cute!". So I decided I would have to take him home with
me.

Fortunately, mom wasn't home yet, so I could sneak him inside without her seeing. I hid
the puppy in my room and gave him some cookies I had stashed away. He was so happy
munching on them.

But then I heard mom coming in, saying "I'm home!". I got so scared I yelled "It's
nothing mom, I'm just playing!". She said she had to go run some errands. Luckily, she
left again.

Then I started wondering what I would do when mom got back. If she found the puppy,
she could get really mad at me. I called my friend Lucy and told her what happened.
She suggested we could have asked mom if I could keep him.

Eventually, mom came back and sure enough, she got angry when she saw the puppy.
But I explained to her it was an abandoned puppy and that I would take really good care
of him. Mom said we should have told her first, but if I promised to behave, I could
keep him.

And that's how Fortunato, my new furry best friend, joined our family! Since then, I've
learned I need to be responsible and ask permission before doing something like that.

An Unusual Situation 2

My dad had a really weird day at work yesterday! He came home looking all stressed
out. I asked him what happened and he told me the craziest story.

Apparently, dad was just doing his normal office work when his boss came in all
serious-like and said "Mike, we have a big problem here." Some bad person had hacked
into their computer system and was threatening to share all their private information
unless they paid them a ton of money!

Dad said his heart was beating really fast when he realized how serious it was. If that
secret information got out, it could mess up the whole company really bad. He and his
coworkers tried to fix it first and block the hacker. Luckily, they managed to stop them
for a little while.
But then they had to decide whether they should just pay the ransom to keep everything
safe. Dad's boss told him "If we absolutely must pay to protect our clients, then we
will." But dad really hoped they wouldn't have to do that.

Eventually, after a lot of back-and-forth talking, dad's team figured out who the hacker
was and where they were hiding. The police went and arrested them before they could
do any more damage! Dad was so relieved it all worked out okay in the end, but he said
it was a really scary day at the office. He might have to be more careful about
cybersecurity from now on.

A crazy SITUATION

Here's a crazy story of around 200 words, written as if by a 9-year-old child in English,
but involving an adult situation and including B2 level grammar structures like modals,
conditionals, and reported speech:

Yesterday, my dad came home from work and told me the craziest thing happened to
him! He said he was driving on the highway when suddenly, a big truck in front of him
started swerving all over the place. Dad was really scared and thought, "Oh no, this
truck might hit me!"

But then, the truck pulled over and guess what? A bunch of clowns jumped out! Dad
was so surprised. He said, "If this is a joke, it's not very funny!" The clowns apologized
and explained that they were late for a circus show and their truck had a flat tire.

Dad felt bad for them and asked if he could help. Luckily, dad had a spare tire in his
trunk. He told the clowns, "I'll change your tire so you can get to your show on time!"
The clowns were so happy and grateful.

While dad was fixing the tire, the clowns put on a little show for him right there on the
side of the highway! They juggled and did funny dances. Eventually, the tire was fixed
and the clowns piled back into their truck. They honked and waved as they drove away.

Dad said it was the most bizarre thing that has ever happened to him on his way home
from work! I wish I could have seen the clowns too. Maybe they will come to my
birthday party!

love SITUATION
Here's a love story of around 200 words, written from the perspective of a 9-year-old
child, but involving an adult situation and including B2 level grammar structures like
modals, conditionals, and reported speech:

My auntie Sarah told me about when she first met uncle Tom. She said it was like
something out of a fairy tale!

One day, auntie Sarah was running in the park when suddenly she bumped into a
handsome stranger. It was uncle Tom! Auntie said she felt all embarrassed but uncle
Tom just smiled and helped her up. They started talking and realized they had so much
in common.

Auntie Sarah thought uncle Tom was really nice and wanted to see him again.
Fortunately, he asked for her phone number before they said goodbye. She was so
excited!

But then, auntie got worried. She wondered if maybe uncle Tom wouldn't call her after
all. She said to herself, "If he doesn't call, I will be so sad." But luckily, he did call, just
like he promised!

From then on, auntie Sarah and uncle Tom started going on dates. She said it was the
most amazing time. Eventually, uncle Tom told auntie Sarah that he loved her and
wanted to be with her forever. Auntie said she cried happy tears and said "I love you
too!"

And that's the story of how auntie Sarah and uncle Tom fell in love and got married.
Auntie always says that bumping into uncle Tom that day was the best accident ever. I
hope I can have a love story like that one day too!

Oral

Hello, everyone. Today, I want to talk about my future.

First, there are some things that worry me. I worry about finding a good job. Actually, I
want to have a job that I love and that makes me happy. I also worry about money
because I want to have enough to live comfortably. Sometimes, I think about the
environment and how we need to take care of our planet.
But there are also things that don’t worry me. I don’t worry too much about what other
people think of me. I believe it’s important to be myself and to be kind to others. I also
don’t worry about small problems because I know I can solve them.

In terms of my career development, I hope to become a successful professional. I want

to learn new skills and get better at my job. I might need to study more and take some
courses. I also want to work with good people and have a positive work environment.

When I think about my personal life, I hope to have a happy family. I want to spend
time with my loved ones and create beautiful memories. I also want to travel and see
new places. Actually, I have always dreamed of visiting different countries and learning
about their cultures.

My dreams and ambitions are big. I want to make a difference in the world. I hope to
help others and maybe even start a charity one day. I also dream of writing a book. I
love stories, and I want to share my ideas with others.

In the future, I want to be happy and fulfilled. I know there will be challenges, but I am
ready to face them. I believe in working hard and staying positive. If I do that, I think I
can achieve my dreams.

Thank you for listening to me talk about my future.

money

ince I was a child, my parents have always taught me to take care of money. They would
give me a small allowance each week and showed me how to divide it into three parts:
saving a bit, spending a bit, and donating a bit. This early education has helped me
develop good financial habits throughout my life.

I believe I am good at managing money. I always try to make a clear budget and avoid
impulse purchases. Additionally, I make it a point to save a portion of my income every
month to ensure I have a financial cushion in case of emergencies. This habit gives me
peace of mind and a sense of security.

When it comes to the question of whether money brings happiness, I have mixed feelings.
On one hand, money cannot buy the most important things in life, such as health, love, or
friendship. These are priceless and irreplaceable. However, I do believe that money can
provide a level of security and peace of mind that forms a foundation for enjoying life and
being happy. For instance, having enough money to cover basic needs and occasional
pleasures can reduce stress and allow for a more comfortable and fulfilling life.

Regarding whether women are better at managing money than men, I think there is no
definitive answer. I know both men and women who are very skilled at managing their
finances. In my opinion, the ability to handle money well depends more on individual
education, experiences, and personal habits rather than gender. It is crucial to consider
each person’s background and the values they were taught growing up.
I must admit that I have sometimes wasted money. I remember one particular instance
when I spent a considerable amount on clothes and gadgets that I didn't really need. In
that moment, I got carried away by excitement and the desire for instant gratification.
However, afterward, I felt guilty and regretful. This experience taught me an important
lesson about the importance of mindful spending and being more conscious of my
financial decisions in the future.

In summary, I consider that I have a good relationship with money thanks to the education
I received and the experiences I've lived. Although I have made mistakes along the way, I
have learned from them, and these lessons have allowed me to improve my financial
habits continuously. Managing money wisely is an ongoing process, and I strive to become
better at it every day.

MONOLOGUE (3 minutes) Talk about risks. Include information about the following points.
• High-risk sports popular in Spain • Are you a risk taker?: driving, shopping, travelling,
health, appearance, work/study • The craziest thing you have ever done

When we talk about risks, it’s fascinating to see how different people and cultures
approach them. In Spain, high-risk sports are quite popular. Sports like bullfighting,
which has a long and controversial history, and running with the bulls in Pamplona are
well-known worldwide. There are also other adrenaline-pumping activities like rock
climbing in places such as El Chorro, and extreme water sports like kitesurfing and
windsurfing along the Mediterranean coast.

Now, am I a risk-taker? I would say it depends on the situation. For example, when it
comes to driving, I prefer to be cautious. I always follow traffic rules and avoid
speeding because safety is my priority. However, when it comes to shopping, I can be
more spontaneous. I sometimes take risks with fashion, trying out bold new styles even
if they’re outside my comfort zone.

When it comes to traveling, I do enjoy exploring new places and experiencing different
cultures, even if it means stepping into the unknown. I’ve traveled solo to several
countries, which can be risky, but it’s also incredibly rewarding. In terms of health, I try
to maintain a balanced lifestyle and avoid unnecessary risks. I exercise regularly, eat
healthily, and get regular check-ups.

Appearance-wise, I’m open to experimenting with my look, whether it’s a new hairstyle
or trying out different types of makeup. It’s a fun way to express myself, and the risks
are usually low. In my work and studies, I’m willing to take calculated risks. For
example, I might take on challenging projects or enroll in difficult courses because I
know they will help me grow and improve my skills.

The craziest thing I’ve ever done? Well, that would probably be bungee jumping. I did
it a few years ago in New Zealand. It was an exhilarating experience, standing on the
edge of a platform high above a river, my heart pounding in my chest. The moment I
jumped, it felt like time stopped. The free fall was both terrifying and thrilling, and
when the bungee cord finally caught me, it was a mix of relief and pure adrenaline. It’s
an experience I’ll never forget, and it taught me a lot about facing my fears and
embracing the unknown.

In conclusion, taking risks is a part of life. Whether it’s through sports, personal
decisions, or daring adventures, each risk presents an opportunity to learn and grow.
While it’s important to weigh the potential consequences, sometimes stepping out of our
comfort zones can lead to the most memorable and rewarding experiences.

EXPRESIÓN ORAL (3 MINUTES) CHOOSE THE BEST AND WORST OPTION AS FOR OLDER
PEOPLE AND GIVE REASONS FOR YOUR CHOICE: LIVING ALONE LIVING WITH THEIR
FAMILY LIVING IN A RESIDENTIAL OR NURSING HOME

When it comes to choosing the best living arrangement for older people, it’s essential to
consider their physical health, emotional well-being, and social needs. Let's explore the
three main options: living alone, living with their family, and living in a residential or
nursing home.

Firstly, living alone can be seen as both liberating and challenging for older people. On
the positive side, it allows them to maintain their independence and control over their
daily lives. They can create their own routines and enjoy the comfort of their own home.
However, this option can also be quite risky. Older individuals living alone may face
safety concerns, such as falls or medical emergencies, with no immediate help available.
Additionally, loneliness and social isolation can become significant issues, impacting
their mental health negatively.

Next, living with their family often provides a strong support system. This option can be
highly beneficial as it allows older people to stay close to their loved ones, receiving
emotional and practical support daily. It can foster a sense of belonging and reduce
feelings of loneliness. However, there are potential downsides. It can sometimes lead to
a loss of privacy and independence for the older person. Additionally, the family
members may experience stress and strain from the caregiving responsibilities, which
can affect the overall household dynamics.

Lastly, living in a residential or nursing home offers professional care and a structured
environment. These facilities are equipped to handle the medical and personal needs of
older adults, providing round-the-clock assistance. Social activities and community
living can prevent isolation, promoting mental and emotional well-being. However, the
downside is that some older individuals might feel a loss of independence and control
over their lives. Additionally, the quality of care can vary significantly between
facilities, and the transition from home to a nursing home can be emotionally
challenging.

Considering all these aspects, I believe the best option for older people, in most cases, is
living with their family. The emotional support and daily interaction with loved ones
can greatly enhance their quality of life. The presence of family provides a balance of
independence with necessary support, helping to maintain their dignity and well-being.

On the other hand, the worst option, in my opinion, is living alone. While independence
is valuable, the risks associated with living alone, such as accidents and social isolation,
outweigh the benefits. The safety and health concerns, combined with the potential for
loneliness, make it a less favorable choice.

In conclusion, while every situation is unique and should be evaluated based on

individual needs and preferences, living with family generally offers the best balance of
support and independence for older people. Living alone, although suitable for some,
can pose significant risks and challenges, making it the least favorable option overall.

ONLINE OR PAPER NEWSPAPERS? LOCAL OR NATIONAL PRESS? PREFERENCES AND

REASONS FOT YOUR CHOICE

Today, we have the choice between online and paper newspapers, as well as local and
national press. Each has its own advantages and disadvantages, and my preference is
based on several factors.

Let's start with online versus paper newspapers. Online newspapers are very convenient.
I can access news from anywhere and at any time using my smartphone or computer.
This allows me to stay updated with the latest events. Also, online versions often have
multimedia content like videos, infographics, and links to related articles, which enrich
the reading experience. Another significant advantage is that online newspapers are
more eco-friendly because they don't require paper or ink.

However, paper newspapers have their own charm. For many people, reading a paper
newspaper is a more tangible and relaxing experience. Turning the pages and reading
without digital distractions can be very pleasant. Also, paper newspapers do not rely on
an internet connection, which can be an advantage in certain situations, like traveling or
in places with poor signal.

In my case, I prefer online newspapers because of their convenience and accessibility. I

like being able to access news quickly and explore different sources and perspectives
easily. Also, the eco-friendly aspect is important to me, and reducing paper use is one
way I can help care for the environment.

Moving on to local versus national press, each also has its benefits. Local press is great
for getting information about events and news specific to my community. It keeps me
informed about what is happening nearby, from local politics to community events and
important incidents. Local press also tends to cover stories that are ignored by national
media, providing a more complete view of my immediate surroundings.

On the other hand, national press offers a broader view of events happening across the
country and around the world. It is essential for understanding the context of the news
and seeing how local events fit into a larger picture. National press also usually has
more resources and can provide deeper, more detailed investigative journalism.

Personally, I prefer a combination of both. I read local press to stay connected with my
community and understand the issues and events that directly affect me. At the same
time, I follow national press to have a broader perspective and stay informed about
important global and national events. This combination allows me to have a balanced
and complete view of the news.
In summary, I prefer online newspapers for their convenience and accessibility, and I
choose a mix of local and national press to stay well-informed at all levels. This
combination helps me stay up to date with events that matter both personally and
globally.

WHY DO YOU THINK THE PEOPLE ENJOY GOING TO PLACES LIKE THESE AT THE
WEEKEND? Think about what to say and talk about your ideas for three minutes.

When we think about how people spend their weekends, places like swimming pools
and museums are popular choices. Both offer different but valuable experiences that
make our lives better in different ways.

First, let's talk about swimming pools. Pools are a favorite destination, especially during
the warmer months. One of the main reasons people enjoy going to the pool on
weekends is to relax and cool off. After a long and tiring week, diving into cool water
can be very refreshing. Pools are also great for physical activity. Swimming is excellent
exercise that is easy on the joints and helps improve cardiovascular fitness.
Additionally, pools are social places. Families and friends can gather, play, and have
fun together, creating lasting memories.

On the other hand, museums are also a popular choice for weekends, but for different
reasons. Museums offer a chance to learn and expand our knowledge. Whether it's an
art, history, or science museum, visiting can be an enriching educational experience.
Many people enjoy museums because they allow exploration of new ideas, interesting
exhibits, and discoveries of things they never thought about before. Museums also
provide a quiet and contemplative environment, which can be a great way to escape the
hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Another reason people visit these places on weekends is the opportunity to do activities
they don't have time for during the workweek. Weekends offer the freedom to spend
more time with family and friends, and places like pools and museums are perfect for
these gatherings. Pools offer fun and entertainment for all ages, while museums can
offer programs and activities for both children and adults, making the visit enjoyable for
everyone.

Additionally, both pools and museums offer a way to disconnect from technology and
screens. In an era where we spend a lot of time in front of computers and phones, it's
refreshing to engage in activities that don't involve technology and allow us to connect
more with ourselves and others.

In conclusion, people enjoy going to places like swimming pools and museums on
weekends because they offer a mix of relaxation, exercise, education, and socialization.
Whether they seek to cool off and have fun in the water or learn something new in a
culturally rich environment, both destinations provide valuable experiences that
improve our overall well-being and help us recharge for the coming week.

WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF SHOPPING IN

THESE PLACES. Think about what to say and talk about your ideas for about three
minutes.
When we think about shopping for groceries, we often choose between supermarkets and
local markets. Both have their own advantages and disadvantages. Let’s discuss these for
about three minutes.

First, let’s talk about supermarkets. Supermarkets are very convenient. They have a wide
variety of products all in one place, which makes shopping quick and easy. You can find
everything you need, from fresh produce to cleaning supplies, in one trip. Supermarkets
also often have longer hours, so you can shop early in the morning or late at night. Another
advantage is the fixed prices. You don’t need to haggle, and there are often sales and
discounts, which can help save money.

However, there are disadvantages to shopping in supermarkets. Sometimes, the produce

is not as fresh as what you might find in a local market. Also, supermarkets can be very
busy and crowded, especially on weekends, which can make the shopping experience
stressful. Additionally, supermarkets are often owned by large corporations, so the money
you spend there might not support local businesses.

Now, let’s talk about local markets. Local markets, or farmers' markets, have their own
unique advantages. The produce is often fresher because it comes directly from local
farmers. You can also find unique and seasonal products that are not available in
supermarkets. Shopping at a local market can be a more enjoyable experience. It’s usually
less crowded, and you can talk directly with the sellers, who can give you tips on how to
cook or prepare the food. Supporting local markets also means you are helping local
farmers and small businesses, which benefits the community.

But there are also disadvantages to shopping at local markets. The variety of products is
usually smaller compared to supermarkets. You might need to visit different stalls to get
everything you need, which can take more time. Local markets also often have shorter
hours and are usually open only on certain days of the week, which can be less
convenient. Additionally, prices at local markets can sometimes be higher, especially for
organic or specialty items.

In conclusion, both supermarkets and local markets have their pros and cons.
Supermarkets are convenient, offer a wide variety of products, and have long hours, but
they can be crowded and the produce might not be as fresh. Local markets offer fresh
produce, a pleasant shopping experience, and support local businesses, but they have
less variety, shorter hours, and can be more expensive. Depending on your needs and
priorities, you might choose one over the other, or even shop at both to get the best of both
worlds.

MONOLOGUE.USETHEQUESTIONSBELOWTOSPEAKABOUTDIFFERENTASPECT
SOFEDUCATION.(3’)
Education is a broad and important topic, and there are many different aspects to
consider. Let’s explore some of them using the questions provided.

First, let me talk about the kind of school I attended. I went to a public state school. My
memories from those times are mostly positive. I remember the excitement of learning
new things, playing with friends during recess, and participating in school events and
activities. The teachers were dedicated and supportive, and the overall environment was
encouraging and inclusive.

Now, some people think private schools are better than state schools. In my opinion,
both have their pros and cons. Private schools often have more resources, smaller class
sizes, and sometimes offer specialized programs. However, they can be expensive and
not accessible to everyone. State schools, on the other hand, are more inclusive and
provide education to all children, regardless of their background. They often reflect the
diversity of the community, which can be a valuable learning experience in itself. I
believe the quality of education depends more on the dedication of teachers and the
involvement of parents and students than on whether the school is private or public.

As for the level of education in Spain, I think it’s generally good but there’s always
room for improvement. Spanish students tend to do well in areas like math and science,
but there are challenges such as high dropout rates and varying quality between
different regions. If I could change something about the education system, I would
focus on reducing these disparities and providing more support for teachers. More
investment in resources and training could help improve the overall quality of
education.

Homeschooling is another interesting topic. Some parents choose to homeschool their

children as an alternative to traditional schools. There are advantages to this approach,
such as a flexible schedule, a tailored curriculum that suits the child’s learning style,
and a safe learning environment. However, there are also disadvantages. Homeschooled
children might miss out on social interactions with peers, which are important for their
development. Additionally, not all parents have the time, resources, or expertise to
provide a comprehensive education at home.

New technologies have significantly changed education. With the rise of the internet
and digital tools, students now have access to a wealth of information and resources
online. Technologies like interactive whiteboards, educational apps, and online courses
have made learning more engaging and accessible. However, the idea of all education
being online has its challenges. While online education can be convenient and flexible,
it also requires strong self-discipline and can lead to feelings of isolation. In-person
interaction with teachers and classmates is crucial for developing social skills and a
sense of community.

In conclusion, education is a complex field with many different aspects to consider.

From the type of school attended to the impact of new technologies, each factor plays a
role in shaping a student’s learning experience. While there are pros and cons to each
approach, the goal should always be to provide the best possible education for all
students.

planning my vacations
When it comes to planning my vacations, there are several important factors I always
consider to ensure I have a memorable and stress-free experience. These are the key
aspects I value the most.

First, the destination is probably the most crucial decision. I like to choose a place that
offers a mix of relaxation and adventure. I research different destinations to see what
activities and attractions they have to offer. For example, if I want to enjoy the beach, I
look into which beaches are the best and what other activities I can do there, like diving
or boat trips. If I prefer a cultural getaway, I look for cities with rich history, interesting
museums, and cultural events.

Budget is another essential factor. I need to make sure I can afford the trip without
worrying about money. This includes the cost of transportation, accommodation, meals,
and activities. I always try to find deals and discounts and plan ahead to get the best
rates. It’s also important to have an emergency fund in case something unexpected
happens.

Accommodation is also an important consideration. I prefer places that are comfortable

and well-located near the main attractions. I research different options like hotels,
vacation rentals, and hostels, and read reviews from other travelers to make sure the
place meets my expectations. Safety and cleanliness are crucial aspects that I don’t
compromise on.

The itinerary is another essential part of planning. I like to have a balance between time
to explore and time to relax. I make a list of the main attractions and activities I want to
do, but I also leave some free time to discover new things or just rest. I don’t like to
have a very rigid schedule because I believe the best experiences often happen
spontaneously.

Company is another important factor. Vacations can be very different depending on

who you share them with. I prefer to travel with friends and family who have similar
interests and who I enjoy spending time with. Good company can make even the
simplest destination a wonderful experience.

Finally, I consider the time of year. It’s important to choose the right time to travel,
taking into account the weather and the high or low seasons of the destination.
Traveling in the low season can be cheaper and less crowded, allowing for a more
enjoyable experience without the crowds.

In summary, when planning my vacations, I prioritize the destination, budget,

accommodation, itinerary, company, and time of year. Considering these factors helps
me ensure that my vacations are relaxing, fun, and filled with unforgettable experiences.
