Computer Hardware
Computer hardware refers to the physical components of a computer system that you can see,
touch, and interact with. These components work together to process and store data, run
applications, and provide input/output (I/O) functions. Hardware is essential for the overall
functioning of any computer system.
Categories of Computer Hardware
1. Input Devices Input devices allow users to input data and control signals to a computer
system. These devices enable interaction with the computer.
o Examples:
Keyboard: For typing and entering commands.
Mouse: For pointing, selecting, and interacting with graphical elements on
the screen.
Scanner: Converts physical documents into digital formats.
2. Output Devices Output devices presents or shows the results of computer processing in a
form understandable by users.
o Examples:
Monitor: Displays text, images, and videos as a visual output.
Printer: Produces physical copies (hard copies) of digital documents.
Speakers: Output sound, allowing users to hear audio from the system.
3. Processing Devices (Central Processing Unit - CPU) The CPU is the brain of the
computer, responsible for executing instructions from software through arithmetic, logic,
control, and input/output operations.
o Example:
Intel Core i7 or AMD Ryzen: Types of CPUs that process data and
execute tasks.
4. Storage Devices Storage devices are used to save and retrieve data, both temporarily and
permanently.
o Examples:
Hard Disk Drive (HDD): A mechanical storage device for long-term data
storage.
Solid State Drive (SSD): A faster, electronic storage device used for
permanent storage.
USB Flash Drive: A portable storage device for transferring files between
systems.
