Determine Tank Volume: Calculate the total volume of the tank using its dimensions.

For example:

For a cylindrical tank:

V=πr

For a rectangular tank:

V=l×w×h

where

r is the radius,

h is the height,
𝑙

l is the length, and

w is the width.

Measure Current Liquid Volume: Measure the current volume of liquid in the tank.

Calculate Additional Volume: Determine how much additional liquid you are adding to the tank.

Calculate Total Volume After Addition: Add the current liquid volume to the additional volume being
added.

Determine Overfill: Compare the total volume after addition to the tank's capacity. If the total volume
exceeds the tank's capacity, the difference represents the overfill amount:

Overfill

Total Volume After Addition

Tank Capacity

Overfill=Total Volume After Addition−Tank Capacity
