Deepavali, also known as Diwali, is a major Hindu festival celebrated with great
enthusiasm and joy. It marks the victory of light over darkness and good over evil.
The festival usually lasts for five days, with the main celebrations taking place on the
third day. People light oil lamps, decorate their homes with colourful rangoli (a
traditional art form using coloured powders), and burst fireworks to celebrate the
occasion.

In addition to the lighting of lamps and fireworks, people also perform special
prayers and rituals to honour Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth. Families and friends
exchange sweets and gifts, symbolizing the sharing of happiness and prosperity.
Traditional feasts are prepared, featuring a variety of delicious dishes and sweets.
Deepavali also signifies the start of a new financial year for many businesses in
India.
