Case Study - 1
Intense atmosphere between the countries, it is important to remain
vigilant on our borders. And our soldiers are ever ready for that.
A soldier is sitting at the place representing the point (3, 2) and notices
on enemy jet. He notices the path and calculates it to be a parabola
symmetrical to the y-axis and vertex of parabola is at point (0, 2) with
path represented by y = x² + a.

(i) Find the value of a in path.

(ii) Find the distance of jet from any point on path, at a given time, from soldier.

(iii) Find the expression for distance in terms of x only.

(iv) Find the value of x such that the distance between jet and soldier is least.

Case Study-2
Three friends A, B and C are given a situation by the company to
find the correct solution. A's, B's and C's chances of finding the
correct solution are 1 out of 3; 2 out of 7 and 3 out of 8 respectively.
(i) find the probability that exactly one of them will find a correctsolution.

(ii) find the probability that problem can't be solved, when all the three try.

(iii) Find the probability of C solving a situation.

These days competitive examinations are online, a student has to go to a particular place to give
the examination at the given time. For this, company has to make perfect arrangements and
students are expected to be well prepared But as a human nature sometimes a student guesses
or copies or knows the answer to a multiple choice question with four choices each.

(i) If a probability that a stuent makes a guess is 1/3 and that he copies the answer is 1/6. What is
the probability that he knows the answer ?
(ii) If answer is correct what is the probability that he guesses it ?
(iii) What is the conditional probability that his answer is correct and he knew it ?
(iv) What is the probability that he copied it given that his answer is correct ?

Families A and B. Suppose there are 4 men, 4 women and 4 children in family A and 2 men,
2 women and 2 children in family 8. The recommend daily amount of calories is 2400 for a man,
1900 for a woman, 1800 for a children and 45 grams of proteins for a man, 55 grams for a woman
and 33 grams for children.

(i) Find the requirement of calories and proteins for each person in matrix form.
(ii) What is requirement of calories of family A ?

Case Study-8
During the time of need and otherwise also people
help the needy. It was found in survey that out of
200 people surveyed in a city 50 help the needy on
regular basis, 120 contribute to Prime Minister relief
fund and the rest help through NGO's. A person is
selected who is in the need of a help, the probabilities
of help through persons on regular basis from Prime
Minister relief fund and through NGO's are 0.15, 0.06 and 0.10 respectively.

(i) Find the probability of a help through NGO's.


(ii) Find the probability that the needy person received the help.
(iii) Find the probability of helping the needy through prime minister's relief fund.

A company is launching a new product and decided to pack the product in the form of a closed
right circular cylinder of volume 432 ml and having minimum surface area as shown. They tried
different options and tried to get the solution by answering the questions given below :
