Chapter I
INTRODUCTION

Background of the Study


Science is the systematic study of the structure and behaviour of the physical
and natural world through observation, experimentation, and the testing of theories
against the evidence obtained according to researchgate.net. Science have been part
of the human society in the earliest years around 3000 to 1200 BCE from ancient
Egypt and Mesopotamia according to pnas.org. This shows that science have been
part of the Human society for so many years and still being part of it until now.

Science is indeed one of the most complex studies that have been part of the
Human race for several years. In doing so, science have been studied by humans as
far as we know today. So it has been absurd if humans still fail to perform well in this
type of academic subject.

So as of now we can see that some students in High Schools fail to perform
well in this subject. Learners still fail to understand certain topics included in the said
subject. So as of now we will sought to find how well or how poor the performance
of Grade 10 students of Dumanguena National High School in science.
Statement of the Problem
This research will help the researcher identify the performance in science of
Grade 10 students of Dumanguena National high school School year 2022-2023.

Particulary it aims to which section have performed well in science and to


identify the section who has a difficulty performing in science.

Significance of the Study


The study about the performance of students in science is significant for
several reasons. Firstly, science is an essential subject that is crucial for
understanding the natural world and developing critical thinking skills. By measuring
student’s performance in science, science teacher and school head can assess the
effectiveness of science instruction and make informed decisions about intervention
and remedial class for the disadvantaged students and the training servers, learning
action cell and taking masters degree for teacher.

Data gathering
The data that was used in this study was obtained from the subject teacher’s
class record.
