General Instructions:

(i) The question paper comprises four sections A, B, C and D. There are 36 questions in the
question paper. All questions are compulsory.
(ii) Section–A - question no. 1 to 20 - all questions and parts thereof are of one mark each. These
questions contain multiple choice questions (MCQs), very short answer questions and assertion
- reason type questions. Answers to these should be given in one word or one sentence.
(iii) Section–B - question no. 21 to 26 are short answer type questions, carrying 2 marks each.
Answers to these questions should in the range of 30 to 50 words.
(iv) Section–C - question no. 27 to 33 are short answer type questions, carrying 3 marks each.
Answers to these questions should in the range of 50 to 80 words.
(v) Section–D – question no. - 34 to 36 are long answer type questions carrying 5 marks each.
Answer to these questions should be in the range of 80 to 120 words.
(vi) There is no overall choice. However, internal choices have been provided in some questions. A
student has to attempt only one of the alternatives in such questions.
(vii) Wherever necessary, neat and properly labelled diagrams should be drawn.

17. Read the following paragraph carefully and answer any four questions from 17 (i) to
17(v).
Lavoisier (1743-94) defined an element as a basic form of matter that cannot be
broken down into simpler substances by chemical reactions. The numbers of elements
known at present are more than 100. Ninety-two elements are naturally occurring and
the rest are man-made. Elements can be normally divided into metals, non-metals and
metalloids. Non-metals are usually poor conductors of heat and electricity. They are
non-lustrous, non-sonorous, non-malleable and are coloured. Based on this paragraph
give the answer of any four questions.
(i) The allotropic form of a non-metal is a good conductor of electricity. Name the 1
allotrope.
(ii) Name a non-metal which is required for combustion. 1
(iii) Name a lustrous non-metal. 1
(iv) Name a non-metal which exists as a liquid at room temperature. 1
(v) Name a non-metal which is known to form the largest number of compounds. 1
18. During a cricket match, a new player Rahul injured his hands while catching a ball.
Thereafter, he was not trying to catch the ball. His friend Sunil advised him to catch the
ball by lowering his hands backward. When Rahul got another chance to catch the ball,
he successfully caught the ball without injuring his hands. Based on this paragraph give
the answer of any four questions.
(i) Why does a cricket player lower his hand while catching a ball? 1

19. Ram hired a three wheeler from bus stand to his house. The driver A’ of three wheeler

followed the shortest path and reached the destination in half an hour. He charged Rs.

50 from Ram. On the same day, Ram’s sister also came to her house after attending a

function in other city. She also hired a three wheeler. The driver ‘B’ of the three

wheeler took an hour to reach her house and charged Rs.150 from her. This type of

problem every passenger is facing in daily life. Even though they have meter also in

their three wheeler but they are charging according to themselves. Based on this

paragraph give the answer of any four questions.

(i) Is the displacement of both the three wheelers from bus stand to Ram’s house same or 1
different?
(ii) Which device is used to measure the distance in three wheelers? 1

(iii) Which is a scalar quantity- distance or displacement? 1

(iv) Give the formula for distance of circular track covered by an athlete. 1

20. Read the following paragraph carefully and answer any four questions from 20 (i) to
20(v).

(i) Two glass jars are taken and filled with water. Now, two onion bulbs are placed one on 1
each jar, as shown in figure. The growth of roots in both the bulbs is observed for a
few days. The lengths of roots were measured on day 1, 2 and 3. What according to
you is the reason for the increase in length of the root tips?

(ii) On day 4 of the experiment, the root tips of the onion bulb in jar 2 are cut by about 1 1
cm and the following observations are noted. What do you infer from the observation?

(iii) Which of the following meristematic cells play a significant role in increasing the length 1
of stems and roots?

23. A train is travelling at a speed of 90 km h–1. Brakes are applied so as to produce a 2
uniform acceleration of –0.5 m s-2. Find how far the train will go before it is brought to
rest.
24. A hockey ball of mass 200 g travelling at 10 m/s is struck by a hockey stick so as to 2
return it along its original path with a velocity at 5 m/s. Calculate the magnitude of
change of momentum occurred in the motion of the hockey ball by the force applied
by the hockey stick.

directions. The velocity of each object is 2.5 m/s before the collision during which they

stick together. What will be the velocity of the combined object after collision?
