Writing Skill

The main aim of information transfer is to enable the students to interpret any
information that comes across in their day-to-day life. For example – If a student
visits railway station, he should be able to interpret the given time table and
express it in a particular form when it is to be conveyed.




 The student should transfer the given information from a paragraph to the non-
verbal format.
 Read the paragraph carefully.
 Sort out the important points.
 Incorporate the points in the given format.
 The student can use a pen or a pencil to draw the graphic forms
 The student is not allowed to add his / her own points to the information given.

information about vitamins.
There are in all four types of vitamins: Vitamin A, B, C and D. You will get vitamin A
from milk, butter and eggs. Vitamin B is derived from meat and eggs. Fruits and
vegetables will provide you with vitamin C. Vitamin D can be obtained from fish oil
and of course, sunlight. A lack of any of the above vitamins may cause certain diseases
and ailments. A lack of vitamins A may result in blindness. Insufficiency of vitamin B
gives rise to disorders of the nervous system. Insufficient supply of vitamin C can cause
skin diseases. Bone diseases are likely to occur in the absence of vitamin D.

Oil is necessary in the nutrition of our body but the excess use of oil should be avoided.
There are three types of oils. We use groundnut oil, vegetable oil and mineral oil in our
diet. Groundnut oil is prepared from groundnuts which we use for eating. Groundnut oil
is used in cooking food. Vegetable oil prepared from vegetable seeds. Vegetable oil is
used in manufacturing of soaps, medicines and scents, etc. The third type of oil is
mineral oil which is obtained from the crust of the earth. Mineral oil is very useful. It is
used for driving machines. It is used in the industry also.

Cherrapunji, July 2, By Press Trust of India (PTI): Heavy rain, which showed no signs of
abating, lashed Cherrapunji and the surrounding areas all day. The Brahmaputra was in full spate it
inundated several villages near here.
Thousand have been rendered homeless. In Cherrapunji alone, fifteen lives are feared to have
been lost. The cities, too, are facing threats of flooding. Traffic has come to a standstill in many towns.
There are been reports of building collapsing too.
Rescue operations are in full swing. Army helicopters are air dropping food packets and
medical supplies to the marooned people. In many areas, residents are being evacuated.
The Government has promised compensation for those affected. The Chief Minister made
surveys of the spot. This is an annual problem faced by the people. Cannot there be some permanent
solution to reduce the misery of the sufferers? The question raised once again in this condition.

Mumbai, February, 21 By a Staff Reporter: In a daring daylight robbery, three masked men
entered the Indian Bank, Mahim branch on Monday at 10 a.m.
When the manager refused to cooperate, he was fired at chest from an N – 38 revolver and
was seriously injured. The three masked men escaped in a waiting Red Maruti Van with a loot of 5
lakhs. The Bank Manager Mr. Anbu Selvan, was rushed to Sion Hospital. He had sustained two bullet
wounds on his chest. Doctors have reported that his conditions were critical.
When contacted Mr. Ragavan, commissioner of Police said that certain important clues have
been inspected which would definitely lead to the arrest of the bank robbers.

DEVELOPING A STORY

In this type, students have to write a story or an experience, using imagination


and creativity based on the beginning or end provided. It is expected to write the story or
experience in the past.

There is no given format as such for story writing, there is a basic structure one can
follow. It helps to construct a story in an understandable manner and keeps the flow of the
story.

• Climax / Conclusion

Tips for developing / writing a story


1) Start the story with a suitable title referring to the given beginning or end.
(Catchy title / Proverb / Idiom)
2) Begin your story with simple phrases like ‘Once’/ ‘Once upon a time’ / ‘Long,
long ago’ / ‘A long time ago’ / ‘Last week/month’.
3) Write the story or experience in the past tense.
4) Use simple sentences.
5) Use proverbs / idioms / sayings / quotations.
6) If possible, include the moral of the story to create an impact.

1) Write a story of a school boy who saves the train from an accident. Complete the
story with the help of the given beginning. And give it a suitable title.

Presence of Mind
Rajesh was a clever school boy. He was 14 years old and lived in a village called
Ramgad. He had to walk along the railway line for some distance and cross the track to go to
his school called Unique High school. Once when he was returning from his school, he
noticed some fish plates of the railway track were removed. He was an intelligent student. At
the same time he heard the sound of a running train on the same track towards the removed
fish plates. He trembled with fear realizing what could happen if he did not act quickly to
save the train.
He thought hard for a while to stop the coming train. Luckily, he was wearing a
red shirt. He had an idea. He took off his red shirt immediately and moved it in the air. He
started running between the rails tracks. The driver noticed the boy shouting and indicating
the red alert of a danger. He stopped the train away from the dangerous place. Rajesh told
him the fact and showed him the removed fish plates. The assistant of the driver got down
from the train and went with Rajesh to see what had happened. When he saw the removed
fish plates, he too shivered with fear of the incident.
The news spread like a fire in a forest. He was honoured the ‘Bravery Award’
on republic Day by the Prime Minster of India. His school also honoured him with the
“Presence of Mind Award

Lost in the Crowd

During the Diwali holidays I went with my parents to see the Grand National
Circus in our town. It was an exciting show. It was quite late when the show was over and

As we moved towards the gate we saw a lady crying loudly. Her five- year- old
daughter was missing. My mother went up to her and tried to comfort. Many people joined in
the search. However, the child could not be traced anywhere. My parents spoke to the lady
and persuaded her to go to the nearest police station. We also went along with her. And what a
pleasant surprise! The child was there, crying but safe.

The woman was simply delighted to get her lost child back.
