❑ PROCESS
❑ FRIEDRICH BERGIUS DEVELOPED THE PROCESS IN 1913 WELL BEFORE THE COMMONLY KNOWN FISCHER-TROPSCH
METHOD(ANDERSON & TILLMAN, 1979).
❑ KARL GOLDSCHMIDT COLLABORATED WITH FRIEDRICH BERGIUS TOWARDS TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE BERGIUS PROCESS, HIS
EXPERTISE IN CATALYSIS WAS INSTRUMENTAL IN MAKING BERGIUS PROCESS A PRACTICAL AND EFFICIENT METHOD FOR COAL
HYDROGENATION(GERALI, 2023).

❑ AFTER WORLD WAR II, INTEREST IN COAL LIQUEFACTION DECLINED WITH THE AVAILABILITY OF
AMPLE PETROLEUM RESOURCES. OTHER SYNTHETIC FUEL PRODUCTION METHODS, SUCH AS
FISCHER-TROPSCH, GAINED PROMINENCE.
❑ BERGIUS PROCESS LAID THE FOUNDATION FOR SUBSEQUENT ADVANCEMENTS IN COAL AND
BIOMASS LIQUEFACTION TECHNOLOGIES.
