Mid-Semester Exam
Part 1 of 2 – Out of Class
Max 55 points

Times: Prompt will be shared online on Thursday Feb 29th in the morning and will be due Friday
March 1st at 11:59 PM.

Complete this prompt ON YOUR OWN, at your own time. This is an INDIVIDUAL assessment. Do not
speak with your peers or consult any other sources to inform your answers. If you encounter any
technical challenges that you are unable to resolve, please contact your FI immediately. Submit your
results on Canvas.

Note: All late submissions will be marked down, per the course late penalty policy. Please commence
your online submission process BEFORE the deadline to ensure that it is received on time.

Design your own headphone set. Images of sample designs are shown here. You can mimic what you
see here or choose another style of the device that suits you. Note that the earphones must cover the
whole ear – earbuds are not allowed. Select appropriate dimensions for your chosen design yourself.

Draw your design in SolidWorks. Remember to create each part separately, saving each as its own part
file before you create an assembly file to assemble them all together. There should be multiple different
part files (such as ear covering, cushion, and band) and a minimum of one assembly file.

Max 15 pts for completeness of earphone design


Max 10 pts for realistic sizing of parts used
Max 10 pts for appropriate technique used, such as types of
mates used in assembly
Max 20 pts for level of detail shown

Submit one zipped folder with ALL of your Solidworks parts and assembly files on Canvas.
