Timing belt: removal/installation


General
Always check the timing marks before timing belt removal

Removal
Disconnect the battery earth cable
Remove the engine upper cover
Turn the tensioner body wheel to release the belt tension
Remove the ancillary drive belt
Release the clips
Remove the timing belt upper cover

Always check the timing marks before timing belt removal

Remove the coolant expansion tank and place it aside


Support the engine
Remove the right-hand engine support

Removal
Disconnect the battery earth cable
Remove the engine upper cover
Turn the tensioner body wheel to release the belt tension
Remove the ancillary drive belt
Release the clips
Remove the engine support bracket
Remove the timing belt upper cover
Timing belt: removal/installation
General
Always check the timing marks before timing belt removal

Turn the crankshaft to TDC for cylinder 1

Removal
Disconnect the battery earth cable
Remove the engine upper cover
Turn the tensioner body wheel to release the belt tension
Remove the ancillary drive belt
Release the clips
Remove the timing belt upper cover

Align the camshaft timing marks

General
Always check the timing marks before timing belt removal

Remove the crankshaft pulley


Remove the timing belt lower cover

Removal
Disconnect the battery earth cable
Remove the engine upper cover
Turn the tensioner body wheel to release the belt tension
Remove the ancillary drive belt
Release the clips
Remove the timing belt upper cover

Fit the crankshaft locking tool


Align the crankshaft timing marks (10122)

General
Always check the timing marks before timing belt removal

Loosen the camshaft gearwheels. Ensure the gearwheels rotate without play

Removal
Disconnect the battery earth cable
Remove the engine upper cover
Turn the tensioner body wheel to release the belt tension
Remove the ancillary drive belt
Lock the camshaft gearwheels
Release the clips
Use locking pins (9882)
Remove the timing belt upper cover

General
Loosen the tensioner pulley bolt
Always

Use an Allen key

Remove the timing belt

Installation
Fit the timing belt in the sequence as shown in the figure (a->b->c->d->e->f)

Removal
Disconnect the battery earth cable
Remove the engine upper cover
Turn the tensioner body wheel to release the belt tension
Remove the ancillary drive belt
Release the clips
Remove the timing belt upper cover

Align the marks on the tensioner

General
Always check the timing marks before timing belt removal

Tighten the tensioner pulley nut


Stage 1: (20 Nm)
Stage 2: (45°)
Tighten the camshaft gearwheel bolts (25 Nm)
Use the special tool to counterhold (9880)
Remove the camshaft locking pins (9882)

Removal
Disconnect the battery earth cable
Remove the engine upper cover
Turn the tensioner body wheel to release the belt tension
Remove the ancillary drive belt
Release the clips
Remove the crankshaft locking tool
Remove the timing belt upper cover

General
Always check the timing marks before timing belt removal

Turn the engine 2 rotations by hand


Turn the crankshaft to TDC for cylinder 1
Check the tensioner marks align

Removal
Disconnect the battery earth cable
Remove the engine upper cover
Turn the tensioner body wheel to release the belt tension
Remove the ancillary drive belt
Release the clips
Remove the timing belt upper cover

Turn the crankshaft until the locking pin fits (9882)

General
Always check the timing marks before timing belt removal

If the camshaft locking tool does not fit


Loosen the camshaft gearwheel bolts
Turn the crankshaft until the locking pin fits (9882)

Fit the crankshaft locking tool (10122)

Removal
Disconnect the battery earth cable
Remove the engine upper cover
Turn the tensioner body wheel to release the belt tension
Remove the ancillary drive belt
Release the clips
Remove the timing belt upper cover

Turn the crankshaft anti-clockwise slightly until the locking tool fits
Tighten the camshaft gearwheel bolts (25 Nm)

Use the special tool to counterhold (9880)
Always check

Turn the engine 2 rotations by hand
Turn the crankshaft to TDC for cylinder 1
Check the timing marks again
Refit the timing belt lower cover (10 Nm)

Removal
Disconnect the battery earth cable
Remove the engine upper cover
Turn the tensioner body wheel to release the belt tension
Remove
Refit the the ancillarypulley
crankshaft drive belt
Release
Stage the
1: clips
(10 Nm)
Remove the timing
Stage 2: (90°) belt upper cover
Remove the engine support bracket
Refit the right-hand engine support
Refit the coolant expansion tank
Refit the timing belt upper cover

Always check the timing marks before timing belt removal

Refit the ancillary drive belt


Refit the engine upper cover
Reconnect the battery earth cable

Torque settings
Tensioner pulley nut:
Stage 1: (20 Nm)
Removal
Stage 2: (45°)
Disconnectgearwheel
Camshaft the battery earth cable
Removebelt
Timing the covers:
engine upper cover
(10 Nm)
Turn the tensioner
Crankshaft pulley body wheel to release the belt tension
Remove
Specialthe ancillary drive belt

Release thelocking
Camshaft clips pin: (9882)
Remove thelocking
Crankshaft timing belt

Counterhold tool: (9880)

Removal
Disconnect the battery earth cable
Remove the engine upper cover
Turn the tensioner body wheel to release the belt tension
Remove the ancillary drive belt
Release the clips
Remove the timing belt upper cover
