Motor

MOTOR:-

Motor as an Engine: In the context of machines and vehicles, a

motor is often used as a short form for "motor engine" or "electric motor."
An engine is a machine that converts fuel or electrical energy into
mechanical energy to perform work. In the case of an electric motor, it
converts electrical energy into mechanical energy, typically used to drive
machinery or power various devices.

TYPES OF MOTOR:-

There are mainly 2 types of motor:-

1. AC Motor
Subtypes of AC Motor :- a.
AC Induction Motor
b. AC Synchronous Motor
c. AC Single phase Motor
d. AC Three phase Motor

2. DC Motor
Subtypes of DC Motor:- a.
DC Shunt motor
b. DC Series motor
c. DC Compound motor

3. Other types of motor

a. Stepper motor
b. Brushless motor
c. Hysteresis Motor
d. Reluctance Motor
e. Universal Motor

SUBMERSIBLE MOTOR
A submersible motor is an electric motor specifically designed
to operate underwater or in submerged conditions. These motors
are sealed and waterproof, allowing them to function while fully
immersed in water without getting damaged. Submersible motors
are commonly used in various applications, particularly in pumping
systems, where they are placed inside a well, borehole, or other
water reservoirs to drive water pumps.

Features:

1. Waterproof Sealing: Submersible motors have robust

sealing mechanisms that prevent water from entering the motor's
internal components, protecting it from damage due to water
exposure.

2. Efficient Cooling: The surrounding water acts as a natural

coolant for the motor, ensuring efficient heat dissipation during
operation.

3. Corrosion Resistance: As submersible motors are exposed to

water for extended periods, they are designed using materials that offer
high corrosion resistance to ensure longevity and reliable performance.

4. Hermetically Sealed: To maintain the integrity of the motor's
internal components and ensure safety, submersible motors are
often hermetically sealed to prevent leaks.

1. MOTOR CORE

Core is magnetic link between the two system connected to the

motor. The core material its construction should be such that the
maximum flux is created with minimum magnetizing current and core
loss. Steel core cause total flus linking of primary to secondary. The
high content of silicon increase the resistivity of the core. Hence
reduces current loss. It also has a high permeability at low flux density
and narrow hysteresis loop.

As the flux in the core is pulsating one, so cores must be

laminated. The core assembly is done according to number of plates.

2. MOTOR WINDING
Winding from another important part of motor. In a motor

secondary and primary winding are placed. Winding are made of copper

or aluminium. Heavy current capacity need conductors of large cross

section. To reduce eddy current loss in conductors losses in the

conductors. Always keep the series on the left side when you start

winding. The shape of the winding should always be u shaped., if the

winding is shorted the insulation tester goes to infinity. Connection of

motor should be star and delta.

3. COMMUTATOR

In a motor, a commutator applies an electric current to the

windings. A steady rotating torque is produced by reversing the current
direction in the rotating windings each half turn.

In a generator, the commutator reverses the current

direction with each turn serving as a mechanical rectifier to convert
the alternating current from the windings to unidirectional direct
current in the external load circuit.

Assembly and observing working of submersible
of motor.

A submersible pump pushes water to the surface by converting

rotary energy into kinetic energy into pressure energy. This is done by the water b

Also, while the pumps themselves aren’t versatile, the selection

certainly is. Some submersible pumps can easily handle solids, while some
are better for liquids only. Submersible pumps are quiet, because they are
under water, and cavitation is never an issue, because there is no “spike”
in pressure as the water flows through the pump.

Advantages of submersible Motor

1. All internal components of a submersible pump stay completely

sealed from the water or other foreign elements. Hence, it is safer to use
a submersible pump in comparison to other types of pumping devices.
These devices are coated to prevent corrosion resulting from staying
submerged. This pump cannot be tampered as they have a sealed
structure. Thus, the internal components and valves are safe from the
damage caused by intruders.

2. Submersible pumps are lightweight pumping machines with a

compact structure. Hence, it can be carried by one person to
different places based upon a user’s requirements or pumping
requirements.

3. A submersible pump is submerged in the liquid that is being

transferred. Hence, it need not use a lot of kinetic energy in order to
suction the liquid out. Thus, it can use most of its kinetic energy to
move the fluid through the outlets which increases its efficiency. On the
other hand, the pump need not work hard since less kinetic energy is
required for the transfer of liquid. The longevity of a submersible pump
increases due to this reason.

4. The submersible pumps are low-maintenance pumping devices

because of their design and where they are installed. There is no need
for priming and there is no possibility of damage to the internal
components resulting from the exposure to foreign elements due to
hermetic sealing of submersible pumps. Therefore, this type of pumping
device can be maintained easily and economically.

Disadvantages of submersible Motor:-

1. There are a few disadvantages with submersible pumps, and two

have to do with the seal. The seals can become corroded with time. When that

2. The other main disadvantage is that one pump does not fit all uses. Single sta

APPLICATIONS OF SUBMERSIBLE MOTOR

1. Submersible Pumps: The most common application of submersible

motors is in submersible pumps. These pumps are used to extract water
from wells, boreholes, reservoirs, and other underground water sources.
Submersible motors provide the power to drive these pumps, allowing
water to be lifted to the surface for various purposes, such as drinking
water supply, irrigation, and industrial applications.
2. Underwater Vehicles: Submersible motors are used in various
underwater vehicles, including remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) and
autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs), which are employed for
exploration, research, and industrial tasks in underwater
environments.
3. Fountain Pumps: Submersible motors are used in fountain pumps to
circulate water and create attractive water displays in decorative
fountains.

4. Agricultural Irrigation: In agricultural settings, submersible pumps

powered by submersible motors are used to irrigate fields and
farmland efficiently.

Due to their ability to operate underwater without the need

for external protection, submersible motors have become an
essential technology for various water-related applications,
contributing to increased efficiency and reliability in various
industries.

CONCLUSION

During one semester training period, a lot of experience,

knowledge and exposure that I have handy. All disclosures were
awaken myself in a boost of self-confidence to face life more
challenging now. Practical is a complement to the science or theory
learned. This is clearly the concept of science and charity, where they
have learned without practice will be lost and will not give anything -
what effect. So if we do without the knowledge of course there will be
problems in terms of grip and stance ever - changing.
During my industrial training, there are many changes from the
point of learning environments and discussion among colleagues. It can
directly increase the dedication and rational attitude toward myself.
However, there are still some weaknesses that can be improved in
the future. Therefore I conclude that the industrial training program
has provided many benefits to students even if there are minor flaws
that are somewhat disfiguring condition , so that this weakness can be
rectified in the future.
I can conclude that this industry is through training I received a lot
of exposure in the computing world. I would like to thank the Polytechnic
giving students - students find their own experience with having
Industrial Training like this.
