Syllabus for Fundamental Doctrines (TE 205)
Course Instructor: S. Daniel Abdiel Credit Hour: 3
Class: C.Th. Second Semester, 2018

Course Description
This course introduces the study of Fundamental Doctrine encourages students to develop the skills necessary to
think theologically. Students will first gain familiarity with central sources of theology and doctrinal themes.
Course Objectives
The overall objective of the course is to make the students to get some understanding sound doctrine, improve
their tools for doing theology, and also to give them an awareness of the richness of the Great Tradition of
Christian faith. At the end of the course, the students will be able to achieve the following objectives:
A. Knowledge
The Course intends:
 Been introduced to all the major areas in the study of Christian theology, such as the doctrines of
Revelation, Christology, Pneumatology, Ecclesiology, etc.

B. Skill (What skill the students will develop after studying the subject)
The students will:
 Grown in their knowledge and love for God through the study of Christian theology.
 Grasped the vital connections between theology, the Christian life and the practice of ministry.
 Established a basic understanding of the classical tradition of systematic theology.
 Examined, evaluated and used a reasonable range of literature related to the study of Christian theology.
 Developed a working theological vocabulary, knowledge of theological themes and a theological
approach that will support further study in theology and related disciplines.

C. Attitude (What transformation/s will take place after finishing the course)
 The course will help the students to understand Christian Theology and they can use sound doctrine.
 Students will be able to get some ideas about Christian Doctrine and they can apply in their ministry.

Lesson 3-8 – Doctrine of Scriptures

Lesson 9-14 – Doctrine of God
Lesson 15-18 – Doctrine of Satan
Lesson 19-21 - Doctrine of Man
Unit -3
Lesson 22-24 - Doctrine of Sin
Lesson 25 -31 – Doctrine of Christ
Lesson 32- 36 – Doctrine of Angels
Unit – 4
Lesson 37- 40 - Doctrine of the Holy Spirit
Lesson 41-44 – Doctrine of the Church
Lesson 45-46 – Doctrine of Heaven & Hell
Unit - 5
Lesson 47-48 – Doctrine Eschatology
Conclusion
Course Requirements

- A separate note/file should be maintained & brought to the class for taking notes.
- Reading reports should be submitted periodically on the assigned topic during the submission date. Late
submission will result in reducing the grade.
- Assignments should be submitted on or before the assigned date. Late submission will result in reducing
the grade.
- Regular attendance, Class Tests & Final Examination is warranted.
- Students are expected to take 40% of marks to pass in their requirements. Those who fail are eligible to
seat in Re-Exam / Redo-Assignments.

Class Notes & active participation in the discussion - 5%


Reading Report - 15%
Assignments – Individual Topic (10 Minimum 10 pages) - 10%
Class Test - 10%
Final Examination - 60%
