Background

The VRA Core is a data standard for the description of works of visual culture as well as the
images that document them. The standard is hosted by the Network Development and MARC
Standards Office of the Library of Congress (LC) in partnership with the Visual Resources
eAssociation.

Items/collections that will be described using VRA:

The Dublin Core Metadata Element Set is one of the simplest and most widely
used metadata schema. Originally developed to describe web resources, Dublin Core has been
used to describe a variety of physical and digital resources.

made contributions to the resource.

Coverage Information about the resource such as the

Rights Who owns the resource legally for example
who has the copyright
Source References used to create the resource
Subject The topic of the resource
Title What the resource is named
Type What format the resource is like is it an
image, book, journal etc.
Notes All the elements come together to make a
whole resource
