1. INVITATION OF APPLICATIONS
The Institute of Medical Sciences, Banaras Hindu University invites applications on prescribed format
(attached) from Indian Nationals for filling up the VACANT positions of Senior Residents, in different
specialties, for a maximum period of 03 years (including Senior Residency done elsewhere). Senior
Residency is extendable every year on the basis of satisfactory performance:
IMPORTANT NOTE:
Any Addendum/Corrigendum/updates, all information regarding result declaration, subsequent
eligibility notice, schedule of interview & assessment and final result of selected candidates will be
announced and displayed only on IMS website (https://bhu.ac.in/Site/UnitHomeTemplate/1_4_1101_Main-
Site-Institutes-and-Faculties ). Candidates will not be informed individually in this regard. Therefore,
candidates are advised to visit the IMS website regularly for any updates.
All the applicants are advised to go through the Guidelines before filling the application form.
No change in the entries made in the application form shall be allowed after submission of application
and the eligibility of the candidates shall be decided based on the entries made in the application form.
The candidates must fill the entries in the application form carefully as in the event of rejection of the
application form due to INCORRECT entries made by the candidate, no subsequent correspondence
request for reconsideration will be entertained.

3. PAY SCALES : Senior Resident - Level-11 in Pay Matrix 67700-200700 with a minimum of
Rs.67,700/- plus other allowances as per University Rule.
4. AGE LIMIT for Senior Resident: Candidates above the age of 45 years as on the closing date of
submission of application are not eligible for the post.
(i) Age limit shall be determined as on the last date of submission of applications.
(A, B & C)FOR SENIOR RESIDENTS IN THE FACULTY OF MEDICINE, SIR SUNDERLAL
HOSPITAL AND TRAUMA CENTRE:
(i) A Medical qualification included in the first or second schedule or Part-II of the third
schedule to the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956 (person possessing qualifications
included in the Part-II of the third schedule should also fulfill the conditions specified
in Section 13 (3) of the Act).
(v) For Senior Residency (Not Linked with Course) in Neurosurgery, Pediatric Surgery,
Plastic Surgery and Urology, the postgraduate qualification will be MS/DNB in General
Surgery
(vi) For Senior Residency in Trauma & Emergency (Trauma Centre) – A Post Graduate
Medical Degree viz. MD/MS/DNB/Diploma in General
Surgery/Orthopedics/Anesthesiology/Emergency Medicine/Neurosurgery from a
recognized University/ Institute.
(vii) For Senior Residency in Emergency Medicine (Sir Sunderlal Hospital) – A Post
Graduate Medical Degree viz. MD/MS/DNB/Diploma in General

Surgery/Orthopedics/General Medicine/ Respiratory Medicine/ Anesthesiology from a
recognized University/ Institute.
(i) A recognized Dental qualification included in the Part-I or Part-III of the Schedule
Dentist Act, 1948 (persons possessing qualification included in the Part-I or Part-III of
schedule should also fulfill the conditions specified in sub-section (1) and (2) or (4) of
Section 10 of the Dentist Act, 1948).
(iii) A Postgraduate degree (MDS) in the concerned specialty from a DCI recognized college
/ Institute.
(iv) Online “Not Submitted” applications will not be considered, and no correspondence will be
entertained in this matter after last date of application form. All particulars in the application
form must be entered carefully. All claims made in the application must be supported with
documentary proof.
(v) The candidate having eligibility for a post in more than one department/specialty and is willing to
apply in all such department/specialty, he/she will have to apply separately.
(vi) Candidates who have completed three years’ tenure of Senior Residency or have done DM/
M.Ch. are not eligible for the post of Senior Resident.

(vii) The postgraduate degree [MD/MS/MDS/MD(Ay)/MS(Ay)] must be from a MCI/ NMC/ DCI/
CCIM/ NCISM recognized institution. Candidates must show postgraduation degree passing
certificate on the day of interview.
(viii) Candidate applying for these posts should attach self-attested Photocopies, certificates/ documents
in support of educational qualification(s), experience, age/date of birth certificate,
MCI/DCI/CCIM//NCISM registration certificate, category/Community certificate, Fresh OBC
certificate, and NOC from the present employer (if employed) at the time of document verification.
At the time of document verification, these candidates will also be required to produce all Original
Documents in support of the documents, failing which their candidature for further recruitment
process will be cancelled.
(ix) No request for a change of category applied for shall be entertained after submission of the
application.
(x) The candidates claiming reservation under EWS category (latest), should submit “Income &
Asset Certificate applicable for Economically Weaker Section” as per Office Memorandum no.
36039/2019-Estt (Res), Dated 31.01.2019 of Government of India
(xi) List of eligible candidates for appearing in the Interview will be available, approximately one
week before the date of Interview on the IMS, BHU website.
(xii) If ineligibility of the candidate is detected at any stage, candidature/selection of the candidate
will be cancelled/ terminated without any notice.
(xiii) Candidates should report for interview on scheduled date at 9:00 AM in the IMS directorate
along with original documents.
(xiv) No TA/DA is admissible to the candidates for appearing in the interview and document
verification.
(xvii) Private practice in any form during the tenure of residency is prohibited. The period of
residency is strictly full time and continuous.
(xviii) The appointment against above vacancies is purely on temporary basis as per residency
scheme 1992, for a period of one year at the first instance, extendable up to three years subject
to satisfactory performance.
(xix) The rules are subject to change in accordance with the decision of the Institute as taken from
time to time.
(xx) If a candidate gets appointment on the basis of false claim of Reservation, his/her services
shall be terminated without assigning any further reasons and without prejudice to such

further action as may be taken under provisions of the Indian Penal Code of fake/ false
certificate. Candidates may also note in respect of the above that their candidature will remain
provisional till the veracity of the concerned document is verified by the Appointing
Authority.
(xxi) In case of any inadvertent error in the process of selection which may be detected at any stage
even after the issue of appointment letter, the University reserves the right to
modify/withdraw/cancel any communication made to the candidate.
(xxii) In case of any dispute/ambiguity that may occur in the process of selection, the decision of
the University shall be final
(xxiii) Dispute, if any, in regard to any matter referred herein shall be subject to the jurisdiction of
Varanasi alone.
(xxiv) The applicant has to submit an affidavit that he / she is not engaged in anywhere under service
bond after completion of PG Course.
The candidates seeking reservation under EWS should fulfill the criteria as prescribed by
Government of India (Office Memorandum F.No.36039/1/2019 dated 31st January 2019 by
Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances & Pension, Government of India) and not
covered under the scheme of reservation for SCs, STs and OBCs and whose family has gross
annual income below Rs. 8.00 lakh (Rupees eight lakh only) are to be identified as EWS for
benefit of reservation. Income shall also include income from all sources i.e., salary,
agriculture, business, profession etc. for the financial year prior to the year of application.
Also, persons whose family owns or possesses any of the following assets shall be excluded
from being identified as EWS, irrespective of the family income: -
The term "Family" for this purpose will include the person who seeks benefit of reservation,
his/her parents and siblings below the age of 18 years as also his/her spouse and children
below the age of 18 years.

The benefit of reservation under EWS can be availed upon production of an Income
and Asset Certificate issued by a Competent Authority. The Income and Asset Certificate
issued by any one of the following authorities in the prescribed format as given in
Annexure-III shall only be accepted as proof of candidate's claim as belonging to EWS: -
