1.DEFINING:
Community service is work done by a person or group of people that benefits others. It is
often done near the area where you live, so your own community reaps the benefits of your work.
You do not get paid to perform community service, though sometimes food and small gifts. like
a t-shirt, are given to volunteers.
Community service can help any group of people in need: children. senior citizens. People
with disabilities. English language learners. and more. It can also help animals, such as those at
a shelter. and it can be used to improve places. such as Local Park. historic building, or scenic
area as well. Community service is often organized through a local group. such as a place of
worship, school. or non-profit organization. You can also start your own community service
projects.
2. BACKGROUND:
Community service is a non-paying job performmed by one person or a group of people for
the benefit of their community or its institutions. Community service is distinct from
volunteering, since it is not always performed on a voluntary basis. It may be performed for a
variety of reasons.
It may be required by a government as a part of citizenship requirements. like the
mandatory “I-land and hitch-up services” for some municipalities in Germany. or
generally in lieu of military service or for civil conscription services.
It may be required as a substitution of. or in addition to, other criminal justice sanctions
— when performed for this reason it may also be referred to as community payback.
It may be mandated by schools to meet the requirements of a class, such as in the case of
service- learning or to meet the requirements of graduating as class valedictorian.
In the UK. it has been made a condition of the receipt of certain benefits.[dubious —
discuss] (see Workfare in the United Kingdom)
3. NEED/IMPORTANCE:
to acquire life skills and knowledge. as well as provide a service to those who need it most. These
are some of the common benefits of participating in a community service program:
3.1: Psychological benefits: Volunteering increases overall life satisfaction and helps you feel
good about yourself because you are helping others. It can also help to decreases stress and ease
depression.
3.2: Social benefits: Volunteering engages students with the community, creates special bonds
with the population being served, and increases social awareness and responsibility.
There are three types of community service and service-learning: direct. in-direct and advocacy. Once a
community need is identified, the project activities that are developed will align with one or more of the
types. Below are definitions and additional examples of each type of community service and service-
learning.
5.DIRECT :
You can develop direct service activities where students interact with the recipients of
service or the physical environment they have targeted for improvement. You and your chapter
can volunteer at a food kitchen to serve community mem-bers in need. Or perhaps you can work
with your community senior center to create an adopt-a-grandparent program that lasts beyond
FFA Week.
IN-DIRECT:
If you don’t have the ability to come in direct contact with the beneficiaries of service.
you can organize an indirect service activity where students channel resources to a problem but
do not interact with those being served. This can include organizing a canned food drive to donate
to a food pantry in a neighboring community or participating in a community beautification
project.
ATHOCACV:
It is important to always be an advocate for the issues that inspire you. During advocacy
service activities, students bring awareness to an issue and inspire others to take action. Advocacy
can also address the underlying causes of a social problem by attempting to influence
policymakers or elected officials.
ABOUT BUTHUMILLIPADU:
The total geographical area of village is 97 hectares. Buthumillipadu has a total population of 433
peoples, out of which male population is 212 while female population is 221. Literacy rate of
Buthumillipadu village is 80.83% out of which 86.79% males and 75.11% females are literate.

Health:
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), health is a “State of complete
physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease”. It means proper
functioning of the body and the mind.
Hygiene:
To keep ourselves free from diseases and maintain good health we need to practice proper
hygiene. The various practices that help in maintaining health constitute hygiene. The word
hygiene comes from a Greek word Hygeia that means ‘Goddess of health’. Adopting hygienic
practices and promoting hygiene in the community, school and workplace prevent spread of many
infectious diseases. Hygiene deals with both personal health as well as community health.
Maintaining hygiene practices reduces the spread of illness and risk of medical conditions
caused by not taking care of yourself. It also increases self-confidence and positively impacts
personal relationships. Keep reading for hygiene practices that help contribute to your overall
health and wellness.
Balanced diet:
A balanced diet is one containing carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins, minerals and fibres in
correct proportion to meet the nutritional requirement of a person at a certain age and doing a
certain amount of physical work.
The energy requirement for moderately active adolescent (teenage) boy is about 2200 to 2400
Calories where as for adolescent girls it is 2000 Calories. The food pyramid shown in figure
depicts the different categories of food and their quantities that we need to include in our diet.
Prevention
• Increased awareness of the reasons for lifestyle related disorders.
• Regular exercise, yoga, meditation.
• Avoiding junk food, and increasing intake of vegetables and water.
• Stress management, increased tolerance for others and positive attitude.
• Setting one’s own goals for improvement rather than blindly copying others.

OUTCOMES DESCRIPTION
Questionnaire:
Short-term and long-term action plan for possible solutions for the problems identified and that
could be recommended to the concerned authorities for implementation.
We all are went to Peda Avutapalli town in Unguturu mandal, Krishna district, Andhra Pradesh,
primary health center ,and talk to the doctors. about the problems identified, like the villagers so far to
the hospitals the emergency cases also identified, in case of emergency there is no certain transportation
like buses, autos, etc. They said MHSS is the solution for the problems, we requested to reach the village
by the systematic time period( likely once or twice in a month ), the village sarpanch also agreed with
the time period. Medical Health Support Services (MHSS) is a health contact center for the citizens of
Andhra Pradesh, that aims to reduce the minor ailment load on the public health system. The MHSS
came to village, the volunteer uses the temple mike to intimate to the villagers. The doctors checked the
all the villagers and given the medicine to them, and also explained about how to keep our environment
clean, clean water &food, maintaining healthy diet, first aid and prevention.
Balanced diet:
A balanced diet is one containing carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins, minerals and fibres in correct
proportion to meet the nutritional requirement of a person at a certain age and doing a certain amount
of physical work.
The energy requirement for moderately active adolescent (teenage) boy is about 2200 to 2400 Calories

Report of the mini-project work done in the related subject w.r.t the
habitation/village.
As per the objectives framed to initiated the community service I have selected community name
Buthimillipadu, one of the shanty areas listed by the government to aware the people of the community
on health and hygiene practices. From the preliminary observation and survey I came to know that the
people living in that community belong to the below poverty line. All the people are daily wage persons
and most of them are illiterates.
Most of the residents are not having proper awareness on personal and environmental hygiene
practices. In the COVID pandemic residents of the community were badly affected due to the lack of
proper awareness on health and hygiene practices. By considering all the above I have decided to
educate the people of the community on the health and hygiene practices.
Conducted survey:
Methodology is said to be a procedure or a way in which the project work has been done in this
project the methodology consists of following steps:
1. Data collection
2. Sample design
2. secondary data
1. Primary data:
Primary data are those that are originally in character and are collected as fresh. All the primary
data is the information collected for the first time. There are several methods in which the data is
collected. I have selected the questionnaire method to conduct my survey. Questionnaire is a
formularised set of questions which are arranged to collect the information useful for the proposed study
the questionnaire is structured containing a limited number of questions, which are away to understand
in the google forms Sampling method for study The sample method or a plan is the procedure or way
in which sampling has been done. As no project can be done taking into consideration the whole of the
population the concept of sampling is used as per the concept of sampling only some samples is taken
from the universe in order to find out the result convenience method is taken as the sampling method.
Sample size:
This refers to the number of items to be selected from the universe the sample taken for this
study is 10 As per the methodology I have initiated my survey with a questionnaire as a Google form in
the selected community with the help of local volunteers. I have directly interacted with the people of
the community by following the COVID rules and regulations throughout the survey. I have been asked
the questions related to water availability, garbage disposing, garbage collection, personal hygiene of
their families , menstrual hygiene of the women and usage and disposing of the menstrual waste etc I
asked about the disposal of the wet waste and dry waste and came to know that they were disposing of
the whole kitchen waste and dry waste all in a single bin. And the bins were collected once for every 3
days by the municipality workers.
Coming to the personal hygiene I asked about the usage of toothbrushes, hand sanitation,
bathing, by this we came to know that they were not completely aware of the personal hygiene but few
of them were following some practices like using of hand wash after handling and replacing of new
toothbrush once in every two months. Next to that I have asked about the water availability and mode
of drinking water supply. I came to know that they have a ground water facility with the help of hand
pump. They were not facilitated with the corporation water supplement; this was the major issue they
are facing.
AWARENESS CREATED
Educated the area residents by sticking charts on the walls with some information about
nutritional food value and also provided them with some personal counselling about the oral hygiene,
cleanliness of surroundings and as well as personal hygiene and also explained to them the value of
education which help them to improve their lifestyle. I have also shown them some pictures and tried
to make them aware about the need for good health and hygiene practices. I have also displayed some
videos regarding problems faced due to the lack of hygiene As a part of implementation of program as
per my knowledge I have practices which may help to lead a healthy life. I had also made them aware
by communicating with them with simple language which they can easily understand.
Community health is the practice of preventing disease and promoting health of a population
through the organized efforts of society, public and private organizations, communities and individuals.
There are various activities and programmes undertaken by the government and local
organizations to maintain health of the people and keep them free from disease. Some of these activities
and programms are listed below:
1. Maintain cleanliness of the villages, towns, cities and localities through proper garbage disposal.
2 Ensure that prescribed standards in food stores, meat and milk outlets are strictly followed.
for instance The National Pulse Polio Programme that is being run by the government.
b) Various awareness programmes have been undertaken against the spread of diseases of national
concerns like malaria, AIDS, polio, leprosy, tuberculosis and hepatitis
4. Organize mid day meals in schools to provide adequate nourishment to growing children.
5. Set up hospitals and dispensaries to provide medical facilities to the general public either free of cost
or at highly subsidized rates.
Personal hygiene:
Following are some necessary hygienic habits.
Regular toilet habit: Regular bowel movement keeps us free of waste generated within the body.
Washing hands before eating: Our hands may carry many disease causing germs and therefore we
must wash them with soap or ash before taking food.
Bathing regularly and wearing clean clothes: Bathing regularly keeps our body free of dirt, body lice
and germs.
Cleaning the teeth: When we eat, some food particles may remain stuck to our teeth. These particles
attract germs which harm our gums and teeth, and cause bad breath. Brushing teeth every
Domestic hygiene :
We dust and mop our houses to keep them clean and free from dirt, flies and germs. Disposal of
garbage in the allotted bins ensures clean surroundings and prevents breeding of disease causing
organisms. Used sanitary napkins need to be wrapped and put in the garbage bins.
Before they are consumed, fruits and vegetables should be washed thoroughly in clean water to
make them free from germs.
Cooked food should be eaten fresh or covered and stored in a cool and clean place. If stored, food
should be kept at a low temperature using either conventional methods or in a refrigerator.
Exercise Regular walking, yoga and physical exercises and outdoor games keep the heart and
circulatory system in good condition. Walking keeps the joints healthy. Regular sleep and relaxation Is
necessary for good health. Abstaining from habit-forming substances such as smoking, chewing of betel
nut, gutka, tobacco, and drinking alcohol; these are addictive and their continuous use damages the liver,
kidney, heart, gums and teeth.
You may have noticed that spitting is quite common among people who chew betel nut, gutka and
tobacco. We must stay away from such habits and try to convince others to do the same. Community
health is the practice of preventing disease and promoting health of a population through the organized
efforts of society, public and private organizations, communities and individuals.
There are various activities and programmes undertaken by the government and local organizations
to maintain the health of the people and keep them free from disease.
1) Maintain cleanliness of the villages, towns, cities and localities through proper garbage disposal.
2) Ensure that prescribed standards in food stores, meat and milk outlets are strictly followed.
3)Immunization programmes for infants and children, for instance The National Pulse Polio Programme
that is being run by the government.
Various awareness programmes have been undertaken against the spread of diseases of national
concern like malaria, AIDS, polio, leprosy, tuberculosis and hepatitis. The National Malaria Eradication
programme is an example of one such programme. What happens if the proper hygienic conditions are
not followed a condition that interferes with the normal functioning of the body is called a disease.
Cause:
2. Eating habits: Easily available fast food that is high in fat and sugar in popular food items like
burgers, cakes, aerated drinks lead to obesity at young age. Can never replace the balanced nutrition
provided by the Indian meal of chapattis or rice, pulses and vegetables.
3. Type “A” personality: People who are always focused on doing better than others rather than doing
their best, those who get angry and frustrated easily and are intolerant towards others are more
susceptible to lifestyle diseases.
4. Family history of heart disease and diabetes also predispose people to these diseases.
FIRST AID:
While playing, working or otherwise, one could meet with an accident. You may get burnt or
hurt or fall sick suddenly. Timely intervention and immediate care can prevent further deterioration of
the victim and even save a life. You can be of great help in such situations if you have the basic
knowledge of first aid.
The immediate care given to the victims of an accident or sudden illness before
medical help arrives is called first aid.
However, medical help should be sought after first aid.
1. Shock: When a person is hurt, a person experiences ‘shock’ and looks pale and tired. The following
first aid can help someone in shock
• Lay down the victim and raise the legs.
• Make the victim lie down and elevate the bleeding part to minimize flow of blood.
4. Dehydration is excessive loss of body fluid and causes severe headache, dizziness and even fainting.
Severe dehydration can result in death.
In mild to moderate dehydration there is decreased urine output (8 hours or more without urination),
dry sticky mouth, thirst, sunken eyes, restless or irritable behaviour and tiredness. In case of severe
dehydration the symptoms are fever, and shock with diminished consciousness, little or no urine output,
rapid and feeble pulse and finally death.
Dehydration may be caused by extreme heat, excessive physical activity and inability to drink water,
frequent vomiting, diarrhoea and in cases of gastrointestinal infection.
Victim should be made to drink small quantities of Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS) at frequent
intervals. ORS can be made by adding one teaspoon of sugar and a pinch of salt in a glass of (about 200
ml) water. ORS packets are also available free of cost at all government health centres
• Wash the area of bite with soap and water. Loosely from a hospital or bandage.
• In case of dog bite, antirabies injection is to be taken form a hospital or qualified doctor and dog
kept under observation for a week to check for rabies.
Burns The first-aid for burns depends upon the severity of the injury.
OBJECTIVES:
● Selection of area
● To study the health and hygiene and conditions of the selected area.
● To study the factors affecting the community health and hygiene conditions.
CHAPTER 6 : CONCLUSION
We visited the buthumillipadu village, discussed with village sarpanch and people in the village. As the
village has most of the problems like transportation, sanitation, health, water facilities, etc. We had surveyed on
“HEALTH AND HYGEINE” conditions in buthumillipadu village. Buthumillipadu is poor in the
hospitality. Village has a old hospital, but there is no government doctors in that hospital. Only once in
a month health camp is conducting in the village and in emergency conditions the people has to go to
gannavaram hospital which is at 10 Kms from buthumillipadu village. Poor water connection is being
provided by the Panchayati. Drainage system is not good. People are less aware of diesases and their
causes. Most of the people are migrating from the village due to less facilities, hospitality, transportation
etc., and the village is away from the city.
Most of all people requested the government to develop the old hospital in their village. They
need clean sanitation and clean water facilities from the government. Garbage collecting & cleaning
should be done regularly. Health aware programme’s must be done by the government in order to help
people to live in a better life. These are the main problems that has been rectified to provide a better
life.
The following are the some of the health practices to be followed for better life:
Health and hygiene are the two factors that play an important role in a human's life.
The life span of human beings is mostly based on the individual's health.
Health is maintained by taking hygienic food at the proper interval of time.
The mortality rate can be decreased if the person consumes only hygienic food and maintains his or
her health in good condition.
Most of the food items act as medicines for certain diseases.
Thus, being healthy and consuming hygienic food is essential.
Pure drinking water is vital as it keeps us hydrated and helps in the functioning of our organs and
removing toxins. Untreated water causes diseases like typhoid and cholera.
Proper garbage disposal helps to keep the surroundings clean.
Defecation in the open is very unhygienic, and it needs to stop.
Adopting healthy practices not just benefit individuals but society as well.
A healthy community makes the nation stronger.
Cleanliness is not the responsibility of only one person however, it is the responsibility of each and
every person.
