Load Transfer :
FLUENT  FEA Softwares
“Procedure to transfer loads from FLUENT to Other
FEA Softwares, like ANSYS, Nastran or Abaqus”
Objective:
To transfer/map the flow quantities & temperature calculated in FLUENT to a
structural mesh for FEA solvers (like Nastran or Abaqus)

Description:
CFD simulation is done comprising the manifold passage to predict flow and
temperature distribution inside the manifold
Temperature on the manifold surface will be exported to FEA Solver to
perform Thermal Stress or Structural Analysis
FLUENT:
Converge the fluid flow & heat transfer problem with reasonable accuracy
FEA Mesh (ANSYS/ Nastran / Abaqus):
Input : FEA Mesh for FSI Interface (Load Transfer)
Output : Thermal / Structural Load Data in suitable FEA Format

Load Transfer :
FLUENT  FEA Softwares
1. Step #1 :
Perform CFD simulation comprising the manifold passage to predict
flow and temperature distribution inside the manifold

Pressure & Temperature Contours on Manifold Walls

2. Step #2 :
Write out FEA mesh for FSI interface from FEA solver (Say ANSYS/
Abaqus/ Nastran)

Load Transfer :
FLUENT  FEA Softwares

3. Step #3 :
Read FEA mesh (for FSI Interface) in
FLUENT

Display Options will be enabled to

display the FLUENT/FEA mesh

Select the required surface under Face

Zones from where the data is to be
mapped

Display the mesh enabling both FEA

and FLUENT mesh

Make sure the scaling is correct and the

surfaces are indeed overlapping

Load Transfer :
FLUENT  FEA Softwares
4. Step #4 :
Select the Analysis Type for Mapping
Load

Select the Loads Types

Select the Output File Format

Select whether FEA Mesh information

is to be included

Select the Units (in case of

Temperature Mapping)
Write output file by selecting any of the FEA
Solver Type

This output file (as it is) will be used as CFD loads for FEA analysis in
solvers like ANSYS, Abaqus, Nastran & Patran etc
