Assignment: Mapping Your Career

Where are you in your career? Where do you want to be in 3-5 years? What
is your ultimate career goal, and how will you get there? What steps can you
take now?

your career goals and a pathway you can follow to achieve them. It can be a
plan for meeting your goals as quickly as possible, or it can include important
stops along the way with smaller goals you want to reach before achieving
your final goal.
Before you get started, review this “What is a Career Map”Links to an

knowledge, skills, experience, and other requirements needed for your future
field of work. Make a list of the skills and qualifications you already possess
and another list of qualifications you still need to acquire.
Step 3: Drawing on your lists from Step 2, identify steps you can take to
help you achieve your end goal. Be as specific as possible. This can include
things like courses, degrees, and certifications; internships and work
experiences; and knowledge or skills you want to develop on your own.
Step 4: Now it’s time to create your career map. Follow the steps for
creating a career map outlined in the article linked above and complete
