Title: Russia-Ukraine war

Russia from the West and fueled economic insecurity around the world. Since Russia’s full scale
invasion in 2022 it's war against Ukraine has had a disastrous impact on civilian life, killing
thousands of civilians, injuring many thousands more and destroying civilian property and
infrastructure.Russian forces committed a litany of violations of international humanitarian of
law, including discriminate and disproportionate bombing and shelling of civilian areas that hit
homes and healthcare and educational facilities. Some of these attacks should be investigated as
war crimes.

The commander of Ukraine’s navy said in a rare interview that the Russian navel blockade of
odesa had been broken. Two Russian state news agencies published alerts on Monday saying
Moscow was moving troops to “more favorable positions” east of the Dnipro River in Ukraine,
only to withdraw the information minutes later.

The war in Ukraine has also resulted in significant loss of human capital, destruction of
agricultural trading infrastructure, huge damage to production capacity, including through the
loss of electricity and a reduction in private consumption of more than a third relative to pre-war
levels. Germany, Norway, Britain, and others are increasing weapons production to help Kyiv.
But the aid may be coming too late as winter looms and Ukraine’s counteroffensive against
Russian stalls.

About 100 Ukrainians a day travel back into Ukrainian at an unofficial border crossing, bringing
tales of repression and fear about life in Russian-controlled territories. Russia carried out a major
drone attack on Ukraine overnight, hitting infrastructure facilities and causing power outages in
more than 400 towns and villages in the south, southeast, and north of the country, Ukrainian
officials have said.
The German chancellor, Olaf Scholz has called on Russian president Vladimir Putin to take first
step towards a peaceful resolution to the conflict in Ukraine. “He must withdraw troops” Scholz
said during a visit to Nuthetal in Brandenburg state. Ukraine has been the target of nearly 4000
cyber attacks since the war began, three times higher than before Russia's invasion. Both Russia
and Ukraine acknowledged this week that Ukraine had established positions on the eastern side
of the river.
