When Toby Was 5
When Toby Was 5
Toby lives in the UK, and he's now 11 years old. In June 2013, when he was 5, he brought a reading book
home from school, called "A Letter to New Zealand". After reading it, he asked: "Mummy, can I write a letter
to New Zealand?" - almost immediately followed by the question "Mummy, can I write a letter to the whole
world?" We decided to start with UN countries (all 193 of them), and embarked upon an absolutely amazing
and life-affirming journey, where people from all over the world agreed to receive a letter from Toby, and to
answer his questions about their country and culture. Toby's writing partners are children, teachers, aid
workers, disaster specialists, conservation staff, directors, estate agents, ambassadors, nurses, a
president...etc. Very quickly, we realised that Toby's respondents were those who could afford the postage
of a letter, and so Toby decided to raise money for ShelterBox as part of his project. ShelterBox is a
company which provides emergency shelter and tools for families around the world, who have been robbed
of their homes by natural disaster or conflict.
Write a letter to Toby telling him about your life in Spain (where you life, family, what do you do, etc)
