c. What does Australian Industrial Award mean? Identify two Australian industrial awards that
will be applicable to you in a Civil and Structural Engineering Company. For one of these
awards, explain what the award is, its content and where it can be applied.

Australian Industrial Award establishes minimum standards for employment conditions,

promotes fairness and safety in the workplace, and protects the rights of employers and
employees. Building and Construction General On-site Award and Joinery and Building
Trades Award are two examples of Australian industrial awards that are applicable in a Civil
and Structural Engineering Company (Fair Work Ombudsman, 2023).
 Joinery and Building Trades Award: sets out the minimum terms and conditions of
employment for employees working in the joinery and building trades industry in
Australia. Some of the key features of that award include minimum wages, overtime
rates, allowances, leave entitlements, training, dispute resolution, etc.
Employers and employees are required to comply with the provisions of the award,
and failure to do so can result in legal action and penalties (Fair Work Ombudsman,
2020).
