PREFACE

Pursuant to Republic Act 10066 or the National Cultural Heritage Act of 2009, the Municipality of
Mansalay, known as the “Cradle of Mangyan Culture”, puts importance in sustaining its natural and
cultural heritage which will always be a key priority in the planning and development of its town in
general, ecotourism and cultural aspect in particular.

Through the conduct of this cultural mapping, the Local Government Unit (LGU) in partnership with the
National Commission for Culture and Arts and other stakeholders can identify the distinct cultural
resources of the community and at the same time can properly record a heritage resource for future
reference. Moreover, the process can generate interest on heritage resources among users and non-
users of cultural properties. Eventually, it can develop or establish a heritage conservation council who
shall lead in the conservation of the local cultural heritage as well as develop legislation, bills, and
guidelines for safeguarding the cultural heritage of the community.

This Local Culture Profile (LCP) provides a unified results of information of the cultural mapping that
would be useful in the formulation of programs, projects, activities, policies for culture and arts, and
sustain its cast eco-cultural tourism potentials.

This profile is organized around 6 parts, highlighting the Natural Heritage, Tangible Immovable Heritage,
Tangible Movable Heritage, Intangible Cultural Heritage, Significant Personalities and Cultural
Institutions.

In general, this Local Cultural Profile will not benefit the Local Government Unit but also the students,
educators, and advocates on documenting our inventory in the culture and heritage aspects.
