DIEP reflection (The Tower of Tiki)

Describe:

In today’s activity, we moved blocks in the Tower of Tiki while following

specific rules. The task revealed the need to step back, analyze mistakes,
and reassess our strategy. This approach allowed us to identify patterns
and improve performance, avoiding repeated errors in the process.

Interpret:

I discovered that adopting a "balcony view" is essential for problem-

solving. Initially, we were focused on immediate steps, missing the bigger
picture. By shifting perspectives and reviewing our progress, we adapted
strategies more effectively, making the task manageable and
demonstrating the value of broader observation in complex situations.

Evaluate:

Initially, we were too focused on speed, which led to errors and confusion.
After adjusting our approach to focus on the sequence of moves and
overall strategy, we improved teamwork and anticipation of challenges,
reflecting the importance of strategic observation over hasty actions in
problem-solving.

Plan:

In future tasks, I plan to prioritize a "balcony view" by stepping back and

assessing situations before taking action. This mindset will prevent rash
decisions, enhance strategic thinking, and facilitate effective adaptation in
dynamic and collaborative environments, ultimately improving
performance and decision-making.

DIEP reflection (SilkAsia Case Study)

Describe

Managing teams effectively often requires balancing strategic goals with

employee engagement. The SilkAsia case study highlighted how changes
in work structure led to increased productivity but also dissatisfaction.
This mirrors my own experiences where implementing new initiatives,
even with good intentions, faced resistance due to inadequate
communication.

Interpret

The case emphasized the importance of participative leadership. I realized

that while it’s crucial to drive results, it’s equally important to bring people
along in the process. When I’ve focused solely on outcomes, I noticed
lower morale, reinforcing that transparent communication and employee
buy-in are key to sustainable success.

Evaluate

In my past projects, I’ve had successes, like boosting output, but I’ve also
faced challenges in managing change effectively. The case study
reminded me of situations where a top-down approach led to temporary
improvements but longer-term issues. It’s clear that balancing productivity
with empathy and active listening can drive better outcomes and
teamwork.

Plan

Moving forward, I will prioritize participative decision-making and regular

feedback loops in my projects. I’ll actively seek team input before
implementing changes, aiming to align strategic goals with employee
needs. This approach will foster trust, enhance adaptability, and create a
more inclusive work culture.

DIEP reflection (Built a bridge with straws and paper clips)

Describe

Today’s activity involved building a bridge with a limited number of

straws, paper clips, and a set time limit. The challenge was to create a
stable, weight-bearing structure while working closely with teammates.
This required quick planning, resource allocation, and effective
communication under pressure.

Interpret

This activity highlighted the importance of teamwork and collaboration in

solving problems with constraints. As we navigated limited resources, it
became evident that success depended on pooling ideas and sharing
responsibilities. I realized that listening to others’ perspectives often led to
more creative solutions than working individually.

Evaluate

At first, I struggled to adapt to the fast-paced nature of the task and found
myself focusing too narrowly on my own ideas. However, I noticed that
when we encouraged open dialogue and combined everyone’s insights,
our designs improved. The teamwork not only enhanced our bridge’s
stability but also created a more supportive environment, reducing
individual stress.
Plan

In future tasks, I will prioritize active collaboration from the outset, inviting
diverse viewpoints and encouraging team members to contribute freely.
I’ll aim to foster an environment where rapid prototyping and constructive
feedback are the norms. This approach will help me become more
adaptable and effective in team settings.
