BLP 2206 BUILDING CONSTRUCTION

Question one

a) Draw a typical section through a double storied residential structure with fire places
positioned directly on top of each other sharing the same chimney but different flues.
Indicate the construction detail for the flues to function efficiently. Illustrate suspended
ground floor and first floor slab. (15)
b) Using a sketch, illustrate a section through a house roofed with a concrete deck with a
parapet wall edge. Indicate how water collected on the deck is conveyed to the gutters and
on to the rainwater downpipe. (10)

a) Draw the cross section of a strip foundation and label all parts. (10)
b) Sketch a well labelled fireplace and give any five precautions when building fireplaces. (15)
