Prepositions of Place
 İngilizcede yer edatları isimlerin önünde kullanılırlar. Türkçede ise
tam tersi İsimlerin sonlarında kullanılırlar.

PREPOSITIONS İngilizce’de yer zarfı olarak kabul edilirler. Olayların veya şeylerin
yerlerini gösterirler.
OF PLACE
(YER EDATLARI)
Bu sözcükler yalnız kullanıldıklarında anlamlı bir şey ifade etmezler.
Ancak isimlerle birlikte anlamlı bir kelime öbeği oluştururlar.

- The apples are in the basket. (Elmalar sepetin içindeler.)

- The key is under the mat. (Anahtar paspasın altında.)

 • Türkçe’de ‘vardır’ anlamında kullanılan bir yapıdır.

• Sayılabilen tekil isimlerle ve sayılamayan isimlerle there is,

çoğul isimlerle there are kullanılır.

THERE IS / There is a computer on the table. (Masada bir bilgisayar var.)

THERE ARE There is some water in the fridge. (Buzdolabında biraz su var.)

There are ten people in the lounge. (Bekleme salonunda 10 kişi var.)

There are twenty computers in the lab. (Laboratuvarda 20 bilgisayar var.)

There is some money in my purse. (Cüzdanımda biraz para var.)

 • Türkçe’deki ‘yoktur’ kelimesinin karşılığıdır.
• Sayılamayan ve tekil isimlerle there isn’t,
çoğul isimlerle there aren’t kullanılır.

THERE AREN’T There aren’t any cars outside. (Dışarıda hiç araba yok.)
There isn’t any money on my account. (Hesabımda hiç para yok.)
There aren’t any good students in this class. (Bu sınıfta hiç iyi öğrenci yok.)
There isn’t a bank near here. (Buralarda bir banka yok.)
 • Soru cümlesi haline çevirmek için yardımcı fiiller (is/are)
cümle başına getirilir.

Is there a pencil in the pencilcase? (Kalemlikte kalem var mı?)

IS THERE / Is there a doll on the bed? (Yatağın üzerinde oyuncak bebek var mı?)
Are there two dogs under the tree? (Ağacın altında iki köpek var mı?)
ARE THERE Are there ten books on the shelf? (Rafta 10 tane kitap var mı?)

• Yardımcı fiille sorulan bu sorulara kısa cevap vermek için;

Yes, there is. No, there isn’t.
Yes, there are. No, there aren’t. kullanabiliriz.
 There is, herhangi bir şeyin bir yerde bulunma
halini anlatır.
It is ise bize o şeyle ilgili bilgi verirken kullanılır.

Örneğin;

• There is a dog in the garden. It is my son’s dog.

It is… Bahsedilen nesne çoğulsa it is yerine they are

kullanılır.
